I think that that tamper should be enshrined! 21 years is incredible!

Joe was kind enough to pose for the obligatory photo of the tampers maiden tampage, so I thought Id post it up here.

Thankyou to everybody who has come in to support us during our first months. One of the joys of having such an oddly remote location is that we only really see the truly faithful at the top of the mountain ;P I just hope that were living up to everyones hopes and expectations.

Id also like to send a special shout-out to one of our greatest supporters, Steve from Coffeelab Design for facilitating these competitions and for the very thoughtful custom tampers that Cassie and I are using. Cassie, in particular, was delighted as hers is actually the first tamper that she herself has owned.

Well, its been 10 days since I started using this tamper and I must say, its been a bit of an eye opener.

The old tamper, with which I must say I was happy, now seems somewhat imperfect. :-/  

Tamping for all those years meant tamping three or four times (middle, to the left, to the right, top and bottom) because the tamper was a couple of mm smaller than the portafilter. For the life of me, why dont they make it fit like its supposed to?

Now with the Coffeelab, I press down just once and its in the machine! Apart from being quicker, it also tends to pour more evenly through both spouts.

Another difference is that the old tamper lived in a drawer; the new one lives outside

Oh wow; what a cool colour for a grinder. Im surprised you didnt get the matching red tamper handle!

I didnt get red cos the grinder is more a burnt orange than red. Very trendy in the mid-late 80s... :
