Ive been offered a taste, which I plan on accepting sometime soon. The importer lives just down the road from me.

On the expense vs taste thing Id take taste every time, damn the expense. Take wine for example. If I knew that the Grange would be a great drop, then the $300-$700 or more is worth doing...once. Afterall money is for spending and life is about experience. On the wine front, I was into wine years before I started drinking coffee. My cellar was full of rare bottles costing $300 or more. Not because of the price, but the taste. Mind you I bought those bottles for a fraction of todays worth (eg. Henscke Hill of Grace 88 for $26 a bottle). My favorite wine to date was so nice that in one sitting the only word that was uttered was ahhhhh!, ohhh! and Mmmmm! by my two non-winsesnob friends. This wine had to be experienced to be believed. The HoG 88 was also an experience similar to this. Sadly, most wine is now overpriced crap.

As for the taste of this legendary wine (Yarra Yerring Dry Red #1 88) it was like drinking a forest of berry fruits with the tannins so subtle that they merely provided the backdrop over which the berries danced on your tongue. Sensational, sublime and something that still lives in my memory.

    Now back to coffee.

    Cheers,

    Mark.

I think most of these things can usually be traced back to 2 pissed guys on their way home.

"$10 if you squeeze the cows teats... OOOOHHH SOMETHING CAME OUT... $20 IF YOU DRINK SOME!!"

Oysters, peppers, eggs, caviar, civet poo etc.
    .........
    2 pissed guys!!

Thats my theory anyway. Hoping for a large government grant to research this more thoroughly.

its amazing what we will and wont try - cant imagine what went through the mind of the person who first tried sucking on a cows udder. I also wonder what went through the cows mind!

Couldnt bring myself to try civet poo, even if it is coffee and roasted to 230 degrees.

Well it appears that although there are a number of CSrs interested in trying this truely bizarre bean we wont get close to the 7kg order... in fact we only made it to about 1.5kg

So if it gets offered again in a smaller quantity (2kg) then we will revisit this thread.

On a personal note... PHEW! I was getting worried that I would have to try it.

ROFL - Surely 230 degrees is enough to destroy even the most persistant organisms that might inhabit a civet cats alimentary tract?

Handling the green (browny yellow) beans may not be my task of choice though.

By the way, I gave your beans a quick cuddle this morning to welcome them to WA.
Gee, thanks for making them feel at home in good old hot Perth - mind you it will be getting a lot hotter for those little babies before too long
