Mark, those truffles were something else. Who said physicists dont understand chocolate!
I believe a physcist first developed the theory of chocolate well before it was discovered.

    From Mark
Hi Ken, Im glad someone liked the truffles. I think they came out a bit extreme in the chocolate/coffee department. Maybe it was the three bars of Lindt 85% dark chocolate or the liberal use of ground coffee. I did like them though... I just couldnt eat too many.
Mark theres no such thing as too much chocolate.Delicious  :P
Your thoughts on the Bezzera baskets are interesting too.I tried a different blend on Sunday and used my Rocky,The standard basket performed well.More confusion and testing ahead I guess.

    From Meg
Ken was an absolute picture of calm watching people fool around with his machine! What a Gentleman!
When someone else is making good coffee Im always calm."Gentleman" must have been my polite twin.
Yesterday I used what Id learnt watching Daniel(steaming milk) and whipped up some pretty good hot chocolates for a niece and nephew.

Now Daniel I just need the recipe for that tasty ciabatta. Then I can use my breadmaker one more time before it goes to a better place for a nobler purpose...

    From Presso:
Why cant we have one at my place!
Well if you can persuade Hoges or Strop to put us all up for the weekend it wont be a problem

Once again thanks to all for such a great day.Illbe ready for another before too long.

    Ken.

Re: Brisbane snobs big roast out

Well thank you so much everyone for coming to the roast day! I know it was a bit of a hike for some of you but I hope it was worth it!  ;D Im glad you all enjoyed the food. I have to thank Russ (Dad) for help with the BBQ and Sandra (mum) for minding Ava and "chopping things".

It was so good seeing all the roasters set up - it made my massive "under-the-house-clean-up" effort worth it. The result was what I like to call "garage-chic" - like shabby-chic only with the shabby bit taken literally. But hey! I had tablecloths and potplants as decoration and once the Bezzera arrived well... we were all claaaass.

I really enjoyed myself, playing with the Bezzera was awesome fun (sorry it got so dirty Ken! And Im really glad we didnt put it on my white caesarstone benches in the kitchen! I know they are tough but... Im not sure they are that tough!). Ken was an absolute picture of calm watching people fool around with his machine! What a Gentleman!

The roasters were great. The Genecafe is SO quiet and a lot more hands on than I realised. But very very sexy in a "no-mess-could-possibly-roast-inside" kind of way. And Ken roasted some of those dreaded Brazil Rios Minas beans for me in the i-roast and believe it or not - in a milky presso coffee this morning they were really nice. Unusual but nice. Here I was trying to give the beans away (noone would take them).

Belinda did Mals 50/50 PNG peaberry blend in the (original and the best) Corretto and she very generously gave me some to try. Yesterday afternoon they were delicious! The datalogger software she uses is also very handy - I saved the profiles on my computer to show me what a good roast is supposed to look like.

I was a bit manic and busy and managed to miss a few roasts including Bruces windscreen wiper motor in SS bowl and neat bean ejection system! But it sounds like it went well - next time Bruce, next time!

Mark, those truffles were something else. Who said physicists dont understand chocolate! Actually probably noone but nevermind... we had another one with a cup of tea just before bed and Dom said he thought we might be talking like chipmunks from the overload of cacao and coffee  : Glad Heather and Huon could come as well - I hope they had a good time.

Daniel, the ciabatta bread was beautiful. Thanks for bringing it! It all went in a flash! I only got one piece! You inspired me to try baking another loaf yesterday - nowhere near as good as yours.

Now can you believe I ended up taking only FOUR photos! 4!!! What a dill! I really was a bit manic - I think I ran up and down the stairs into the house 700 times. I think Daniel took quite a few photos though so hopefully he can post soon. Now my photos arent very good but I shall post them anyway. Ive had to reduce them a bit to post them.

So Brisbane/Ipswich snobbers and snobbettes! A great roast day out. Id definitely do it again! And a tasting day sounds great too.

    Thanks again yall

    Meg

Im a big fan of the Bezzera baskets. I get nearly 18 gm into them, so Im surprised that the LM is any better. Im using exactly the same dose in the Pav and theyre working great.

I had to try the weekends roast yesterday. Im afraid my Red sea belnd went too far and hit the charcoal zone. The burnt flavours are overwhelming... too bad. I guess that Gene Cafe takes some getting used to.

    A very enjoyable event though.

    Cheers,

    Mark.

    Quote from Andy..
    "tis soooo predddy Ken.

I look forward to seeing it splattered with coffee grinds in the photos of the roast-out.

...and then the "I got it home and cleaned it for 2 hours" photo as the finale of the series... "before / during / after"

You were right there about cleaning it Andy.Oh well it was a labour of love.
It even impressed a niece and nephew with the "bestest hot chocolate ever" this arvo.
So I must be improving (slowly) in the milky dept too.

    Cheers,
    Ken.

Sounds like great fun. Even better that there was a mix of gear to fiddle with.

    Well done northern CSrs!

    Hi TG,
Meg and Daniel had their cameras there so Im sure some pics will be revealed soon.

I can only agree with Mark. Many thanks Meg for making us so welcome and providing the great feed. Thanks Mark for those great truffles.I was forced to grab a few for the trip home. What a terrible shame that was.

I really enjoyed seeing the Gene Cafe (lust lust lust) and the ingenious home brew roasters. The Corretto, the popper with turbo charged assistance and theSS bowl and windscreen wiper motor all ran well. It makes me want to break the Iroast so I can build something.Well maybe just have a go at building something. It certainly looks like fun and great roasting too.

Everybody had a play with Bezzie and we found the original double basket not as good as the La Marzocco double I got with my GP tamper. We were able to get a slightly larger dose which worked better.Ill experiment more with them both and post results later in the week.

All in all a terrific time was had by all.Plans are already being made for the next event.Perhaps as Mark suggested we can all bring along a few different roasted beans and experiment with blending. No doubt itll be as much fun as today was.
Thanks to all involved in making the day so successful and such fun.

    Cheers,
    Ken.
