Surprisingly, Les said nothing about auto-fill sensors, tamping,  the fact that bought beans tend to be stale, water temperature and a myriad of other variables.

I mention autofil sensors NOT because they are essential for good coffee. They are not. But because to use the recommended distilled water would render them useless. With disastrous consequences.

The pump will keep pumping water into the boiler until the rising level touches the tip of the sensor. Then it stops. The water must have dissolved salts for the system to work -- distilled water has no impurities. The pump comes on...and on.... and on....

The system has a negative-ground electrical circuit. Contact betwen the sensor and the metallic boiler will stop the pump. That contact is made via the boiler wall, through the impure water, to the tip.

I would have thought that someone from the coffee association would know that and therefore not make such a rash recommendation.

              Re: Coffees secret ingredient exposed

I beg to differ. When I was in Australia on holiday (I live in NZ), The first cafe I went to, I was the only customer there, so I was able to chat to the barista. She served me a latte(I drank lattes back then), and told me that she made it with love. If that was love, I would hate to see one made with black hatred. It was weak, with burnt, scalding milk, and was as bitter as the devil. The barista asked me how it was, and i politely told her it wasnt the best. Heres the X-files bit: She apologised, and recomended me to a cafe down the road, in a hushed voice, even though there was no one around to here her scandalous unfaithfulness to the cafe she worked at... The cafe she sent me to had $h17 service, but fantastic coffee!

Moral: There is only so much you can do with love, without solid technique... Dont be fooled by someone smothering you with love! Youll be smothered in Scalding, Burning, Bitter hatred as well.

              Cheers, Mark

I feel sorry for Andy @ Aroma then. Esp. if hes trying my shots.

They said they made it with love. And you believed them. Another sucker. Should have had them keep making you coffees until you approved of one. They still took your money in the end.

                      lol Jack, you poor bastard.

Seeing as youve won the World Latte Art Championship, are you going to continue working for Jones or pursue something else?

Had to laugh, conductivity is what many systems use, and in the health industry it is critical for many systems and for the testing and measurement of samples. Yet many people still think pure water is the best. Put it in your radiator or any number of systems and it will cause all sorts of MAJOR problems. That is why the radiator fluid additives are required... To add enough additives so that the water does not leach it from your radiator and block.

Yea well spare a thought for many health nuts who get sold Water systems that claim to provide PURE water (Distilled etc). They body chemistry must be way out of wack, unless they are then taking any number of supplements.

To add to that, a number of sports and health drinks now claim that the main ingredient is distilled water and then they add various salts and minerals ;D

The body depends on old fashioned water, with all its included extras. As for our equipment, then we still need many of the electrolytes, we just want to Manage those that hurt the equipment or cause a bad taste.

Murphys Law of Research: "Enough research will tend to support your theory" and dont the sales people know it.
