Thanks Simon, hope yours is going well too. I’m unsure how the coffee tastes, have arrived with a head cold so I’m not able to taste much, in any case it’s caffeinated so I’m getting the key requirement.
The flavour expectation of coffee here is much different than Australia. I’d say we are a little spoiled (in most metro areas anyway), in Japan most people drink weak Americano, roasted well into 2nd crack, and very well aged...from my limited experience (yearly holidays here for the last 15 years).
Have this pipe dream of moving here for a few years and opening a coffee business, Australian style coffee is too strong for most people here, would have to do quite a bit of market testing to produce something appealing to a portion of the population that would make your business commercially viable. There are specialist coffee houses, but barely anyone considers coffee to be a product that should have excellent flavour characteristics.
My opinions only, I’m no expert on the Japanese, even being married to one..

Hehe, but it says premium!!Originally posted by Janus View PostWe’re in the land of the rising sun, not sure if this qualifies as a horror story? Best we’ve been able to manage so far:

There’s a roaster nearby, will pick up some beans today hopefully..
Yeah whenever I'm travelling I just do the best with what's available... it's actually quite fun, experimenting and seeing the best way to get the most drinkable beverage.. I'd say that's what baristas do, work their magic with whatever is put before them
Hope you're enjoying your Xmas time Janus

Hope everyone had a great Christmas.
Any good presents or horror stories to share?
I had a sad moment when my present didn't arrive (ordered 17/12) and wasn't told a part was out of stock so wasn't sent but no one contacted me to say so or ask if want to choose another variation till I contacted them to see what was happening as hadn't been posted and then it was too late as I finally got a reply Friday after two days of emails, calls and inally Facebook message. Apparently it's been sent yesterday but tracking number says otherwise
Another was I thought an areopresso may be in the Santa stocking but no and it wouldn't have mattered anyway as forgot take the hand grinder and coffee so no coffee all day Christmas Day
All that sooky whinge done and more importantly it was a great time with family and my little one had a great day so 10/10 for the past few days
