DJ Mick was on hand to mix some tunes and Debb entered the scores...

Zoe from Coffee Hit (CoffeeSnobs site sponsor) using a blend that she and David put together (El Salvador and Honduras I think) which was roasted by David Makin.
(I can see a potential demarcation dispute with Australias current Barista champion ROASTING coffee!)

Zoe doses the next shot while previous pour oozes...

Zoes signature drink was reduced muscatel grapes, poured over an espresso shot and about 50ml of sparkling mineral water added just before the judges try it (to give bubbles).

I REALLY want to try this one. Simple and I assume a great explosion of coffee and fruit cake flavours.

The judges in shot are: The Vic cupping champ Tom, CoffeeSnob Nim, Mel from the Coffee Academy and Jeff from Da Vinci

Thanks for judging today Luca. I know how heavy your study workload is, and your palate sure copped a workout today (I think we had a pool of 7 judges in total with only 5 able to swing through tech and sensory for 14 competitors). In fact a big thanks to all of the judges and volunteers who are making it possible to compete this weekend. David Makin has done a huge amount of the organising, and has done an amazing job pulling it all together with very few resources.

    Cheers,
    Simon.

    Hey Kids,

14 competitors, 6 qualified for a rockin finals tomorrow and quite polished performances all around.

Latte art is always a good one and there are no shortage of heavy-hitters competing tomorrow.

Great MCing by David S - I hear that tomorrow hes going to have a rap throwdown with Nolan on the decks. Or maybe not.

From memory, the finalists are, in no particular order:

    Simon - Michels
    Nolan - Liar Liar
    Taylor - BBB
    Jesse - Dancing Goat
    Zoe - Coffee Hit
    Caleb - Five Senses

Unfortunately, Im not going to be there tomorrow (probably should have studied rather than judged today) but hope that everyone has fun and Im sure that itll be great.

    Cheers,

    Luca

    Hi ACog,
    only if they cheer!

Of course everyone is encouraged go come along and checkout the two days of comps. There is usally a coffee cart setup and all the baristas jump on the cart after their heats, its a great chance to try some competition coffee made by the best in the state.

Im hoping to get there on Sunday, come and say gday.
