    Re: My latte art ...

    Hi All!

Its great to see everyones improving latte art (im glad to see that im not the only one to produce, well, impressionistic artworks : )
I felt like attaching some pics, the first one is from September, and i was stoked with it at the time! The second on is from today (November), i couldnt have imagined this a few months ago. Still got far to go (how do people put so many leaves on their rosettas!).

        Pretty darn good Sammy 8-),

Im afraid I belong to that niche of the Latte Art world who prefer to perfect a rendition of the famous "Lumpy Spud" :-[, so you are well ahead of what passes for art in our household. Excellent work though, keep it up.....

        Mal.

              Re: My latte art ...

Thanks for the comments! Out of interest, who/where/what coined the term lumpy spud? Makes me laugh whenever i hear it.

I made another coffee this arvo and got a bit too enthusiastic with the frothing and ended up with something that looked like a perfectly whitewashed wall! Argh the variablity!

I have a question though, see in the 2nd pic how there are bubbles, well, i only get them (unless i stuff the milk up) in the brown sections of the latte art (have a look at the pic). Im puzzled as to why that is, can anyone offer any explanations?

              Cheers!

                Sammy

I think it was Dennis, Founder and Master of the Lumpy Spud.

                    One of two reasons.

                    1) Your milk already had those bubbles...in your case, this is most likely the case.

                    2) Your coffee is very fresh and has lots of bubbles. This looks quite different than case 1 and the picture you are refering to

What confuses me is why the bubbles only appear in the brown sections.   :-?
They also seem to grow there over time (see picture) though thatd be Laplaces law i guess

mmm, looks very quaffable Sammy - & an impressive rosetta to boot!

Id go with Davids 2nd guess, considering little bubbles are concentrated in the crema - your beans are probably quite fresh. Is your extraction quite bubbly when pouring?

                        Cheers,
                        Tony

Nope...Id say its the milk that has all the bubbles in it. The foam is not as micro fine as it could be.

Sammy, to be honest I didnt detect any bubbles until YOU brought it to attention!

Looks to me a like a damn fine pour, with correct texturing. If youd over-stretched the milk (ie aerated it to create a fluffy separated marshmallow experience) you would not have been able to achieve that bit of an alright rosetta that you did.

If youd kept your wand immersed totally when steaming just to achieve correct milk temp, then you would not have created the velvety, silky microfoam smooth layer on top to even consider a bit of a latte art finish.

Accordingly, & evidently from the pic (IMHO) it looks like you textured your milk well.

So, I reckon youre doing fine!

Dont worry about the little frikkin bubbles ... Oh, & if you see them in your jug, bang-bang on the counter & swirl the jug with your wrist to avoid separation pre pour.

                            practice, practice, practice

I find I get alot of those Crema bubbles when I do SO Harar... but with a Brazil based blend its less likely to happen.

Im determined to make free pouring my next priorty, only problem is I dont have a machine anymore. Had a look through the thread and search but couldnt find anything.. is there any courses in Melbourne that focus on latte art? My partner and myself both want to make a venture into the area even if it takes us several years and lumpy spud as a half way point
