apparently (I heard this from a good source) you can use water with a drop of dishwashing liquid for milk and soya sauce for espreso

Re: Cheaper alternative for Latte art practice!!

OK so here goes. I just tried a soy dishwashing liquid combo and found that the water did indeed look like milk there was no body to it. It was just thin and hadlittle bubbles in it. I poured 2 and while it did work I would not say it was a success. I will say that it proberly cleaned my steam want a little and I made extra sure to purge it for a while after.
So if we could thichen up the water then it could work. As I type I though about using a little corn flower in the water to thicken it while you steam. mmmmm that might work. Might have to try that.
Ill let you know when I have done it

I tried the water and a drop of detergent and it works brilliantly. You only need the tiniest drop of detergent and cold water.

          ;D ;D ;D
[ch65279]I tried it too and I must have used too much dishwashing liquid, I only used a drop. My wife
and kids came in as I was doing it and they fell down laughing as I foamed up a cup of soap
with a shot of soy sauce in a cup next to me. They thought I had gone loopy.

I tried it again with a quarter of a drop of dishwashing liquid and a dash of corn floor. I was a bit better but not as good as milk.

My daughter said she would bring around some of her friends from youth group and I can
make them all hot chocolates. I think this will be more productive.

Time for me to fess up after laughing so hard a few posts up. Ive used the soy, and it works. Its viscosity is thinner, but it helped with the fundamentals of angle, pour, flow rate and wrist technique. 14 Litres of milk were sacrificed. Awfully glad I didnt have to pull all those pretend double coffee shots!

The next day I did my latte, and all the practise had been worthwhile. It came out even better in coffee than it did in soy. 3-dimensional. 8-)

;D 14 litres of milk at a couple of bucks a litre. Oh the price we have to pay to drink a pretty coffee. But does it tast any better because we have a work or art sitting on the top? You bet it does.

Have you guys seen the awesome video on Home Barista of Scott Rao teaching how to pour latte art by practicing with water and dishwashing liquid? I just came upon it last night and it’s really awesome! Scott says he can teach anyone to pour latte art in 15 mins. The video gives very good instruction on how to do this. Check it out!

Possibly a temp. bandwidth thing. Is it still happening?
If you right click the image while playing back, you can select the Quality option and try a lower quality or select Settings and disable or enable hardware acceleration.
Also, if you double click it, it will open the original Youtube page linked to and might play back better from there (and you can check out related vids)

                              That vids awesome!

A friend of mine told me he used to put two pencils on top of the cup in the shape of a triangle(held in place with rubber-bands) and use that to help get a consistent triangle shaped rosetta.
