Re: My Rosetta Trees

Id love a few more varieties to roll around naked in play with. My plan was to buy small amounts of many varieties initially to expose myself  to experience many different beans without breaking the bank so I can find a few favourites that would keep me very happy forever   .  Only the universe sent me few varieties in large amounts.  >

I stuffed my 10kg of green in the top shelf of my coffee cupboard, not ideal I know,. but Ill bring them out to air and rotate often.  Hubby will never look up, so hell never know  .. but if I stuff one more bag up there it could roll out and give the game away, so Id better lay quiet for a while..at least until Ive used up 2.5kg.

Im not going to the next Beanbay sale,.. you see I have willpower,...so I will pluck the keys off my keyboard, I will swallow a few and throw the rest in the backyard an hour before just in case I try.  Im no fool!!  :

      Re: My Rosetta Trees

      Remy,

On trying to help you get a rosetta...

Watch the video of Scott again!

When you go to have another attempt yourself, dont try for a rosetta. Instead, aim to make a heart...(or as my boss calls them...bulls bums!! ;D)

If you can get a heart on your coffee, then youre nearly there for a rosetta.

So, all this is trying to teach you is to let the milk come up in the cup and bascially form the art itself as you pour. Then as for pulling through the shape and making it heart shaped is to teach you how to "pull" the milk stream through itself so as to eventually make that stem on the rosetta.

Also, your cups that you are using will make a difference to how you are achieving your art. So, if youre using a tall narrow mug, youre going to have difficulty, they are hard to get art in. It is doable, just difficult. If youre using nice round bottomed cups, the milk should almost make the pattern itself in these.

      And one last tip...

The milk pour is fast, not slow. So, dont slow it down too much or you will just get blobs. Or spuds as we fondly call them here!

        Re: My Rosetta Trees

Thanks scoota gal, I dont know why,.. but I have only just found this post .

I have been practicing,.. some days I dunno..dont even come close...then every now and then the planets align. At least I understand a bit more how the milk forms the pattern even if I cant yet achieve it. I did one this morning and its not too bad. I would be happy to pass that one across the bench to a visitor.

Still looks a bit like a tree, but only because I accidently blobbed the bit on the end. It certainly was done a totally different way to the last trees (around the right way this time) and at least I can see the real thing starting to develop in these last few efforts.

I will check out the video a few more times again with a little more understanding under my belt,.. and funny,.. I poured a lot faster this morning like for a joke and was so surprised to see the rosetta forming better than I had ever done. Hmmm.. I think I am starting to get this.

Oh,.. and I dropped one setting courser again on my grinder this morning because my machine was surging too often,..and the crema was much more frothy..hmmm. The mugs that Im doing these in mostly are double shot poured into Cashmere range Maxwell & Williams, quite wide with rounded bottoms.

I generally pour down the far wall of the mug, tipping mug away from me. The milk swirls around in a whirlpool but not disturbing the crema too much. I gradually bring the mug upright and move the milk stream into the middle of the mug as it becomes about 2/3 full,.then tilt the mug towards me and do the little wiggle of the jug by the fast squeeze grip/release grip on the handle.. kind of motion.

        Hope thats right.

          Re: My Rosetta Trees

I tilt my cups towards me and pour on the side closest to me then moove to the middle before forming the rosetta by drawing back as I pour.

            Re: My Rosetta Trees

Ok.. so tilt cup towards for the whole pour?.....of course gradually levelling the cup to avoid overflowing. Cool..thanks TG will try that,.. makes sense and a little less messing around.

              Re: My Rosetta Trees

I was going to say the same thing as TG...only I got here a day late. Sorry. Ive been out catering for a conference the last few days.

If you havent already, Remy, Id also say to just relax your grip on the jug a little. Its more of a wrist action than a hand or finger action.

Did you see how Scott holds his jug in the video? Fingers around the handle and thumb over the end near the top. Well, thats how I hold it and I dont find myself doing any squeezing of my fingers or hand. No, definitely a wrist action here. BUt, of course its whatever works for you, Remy. Im actually a Southpaw...but I use my right hand to pour milk. Go figure.

              Okay...now Im sounding really autistic... : ;D

Maybe I should try pouring left handed.

                  Re: My Rosetta Trees

Thanks scoota gal,. I read somewhere that it was all in the squeeze of the handle and was trying that. I spose there would be a number of correct ways to hold the jug and its what feels right and works well for the individual that really counts I guess. I really do need to watch that vid again because I didnt recall how Scott held the jug. Im a little ambi I think,. can write with both hands (and running writing upsidedown and/or back-to-front mirrored ,..a useful skill to have, I know  : ) so Ill try holding jug in left hand for a while.
