Tried my latest 4 bean blend today--
Peru Grace Villa Estate 35%
Kenya AA 30%
PNG Kinjibi Peaberry 15%
Colombian Voltan Galeras 15%
1st crack 9.10 2nd and pull 14.30 at 210C
CS 8-9
Smooth, rich crema, with great mouthfeel and wonderful aftertaste.
Alas I have run out of PNG Kinjibi which have been a great bean, lets hope some more appear on beanbay soon!!

My first 4 bean blend was:-
40% Colombian Voltan Galeras,
20% Yemen Bani Ismail,
20% Peru Villa Grace,
20% PNG Kinjibi.
I took it out slowly and reached first crack at 13.02 at 185C then slowed it down to second crack at 19.36 at 210C. I pulled it a start of 2nd and it was CS 8-9, nice even roast.
This blend made a rich smooth espresso and cut through milk well, was at it peak around day 5.
My next 4 bean effort is:-
Colombian Voltan Galeras 40%
Malawi AA+ Panwamba 20%
PNG Kinjibi Peaberry 20%
Peru Grace Villa Estate 20%
1st crack 9.10
pulled at start of 2nd at 13.45
CS 9-10
Tried it day 5 and Espresso was a dark golden syrupy colour, very viscous and smooth, great in the mouth and lingering aftertaste. Made a killer flat white with Bannister Downs fullcream milk, I though I was having one of Epics creations when I sipped it!!
Im heading out the roastery now to create another 4 bean blend--what combination next?

I tried the 4-bean blend today Andy, as you predicted it was great, nice and smooth as espresso no bitter aftertaste. It made a great flat white and I even managed 3 little mini rosettas on top!! I am encouraged to try some more variations of the blend now but I will definitely keep this profile and repeat it.

Hey Goodies! Personally, I find whenever Ive tried roasting more than 3 bean varieties it all gets too confused for my humble palate.
Did you roast these separately? Queried as I would expect the yirg, for example, to benefit by going into 2nd crack while the sweet naturals would be roasted shy of 2nd.
Anyway, as Andy said, there are so many variables and preferences!

Not "that" surprising.
So many variables in roasting that people can get a totally different result with the same bean.
...which is why I encourage people to try different profiles with all their beans to find what works best for them.

I originally was going to put some Sumatrian Mandheling in but ran out so I put in the Sulawesi in instead. I know it hasnt got the dark syrupy body of the Sumatrian but was hopeing to add just that touch of earthiness to the blend.

Hey Goodies ...
I personally found the last batch of Sulawesi Toraja a tad disappointing - a little mono-dimensional, with no real standout discerning features. If you can get your hands on some Sumatran Mandheling Blue Batak, Id suggest substituting it for the Sulawesi. Great body, earthy, lingering dark cocoa & caramel notes. With the ratios of your blend, Id reduce the Brazilians to say 20%, and include 30% Sumatran. That should lift it from middle of the road I reckon.

I have just done a 5 beans blend. I wanted to challenge myself. although it is starting to get on top of me in the fact that so many beans can confuse which one is doing what in your mouth.
Here is my World in a cup
40% Brazil SWeet naturals (Base & sweetness)
20% Colombian Volcan Galeras Supremo Bold (Body)
20% Ethiopian Yirg (Brightness)
10% Sulawesi Lemo Toraja (Earthiness)
10% Indian Tiger Moutain (Crema and a touch of spice)
Roasted to CS9 although as it was a hot day yesterday it roasted out to SC quicker than I wanted. Tried immediately after roast as an Espresso. Just to get an idea of the flavours, Med body, Med Acidity, Med palette length, Crema was good with a nice copper colour, Everything was rather Medium (Middle of the road) Have tried as a plunger next day and was a little high on the acidity range for me. (Only average)
Any ideas for improvement if I was to do this again, Keeping in mind I want to use similar beans to keep the theme as "World in a cup Blend"

That blend should work really well Greenman, nice gentle roast profile too. I expect this will be a stunner and will set a new bar height for your future roasts.

Its my first 4-bean roast so Ill see how it turns out, Ill pull a shot tomorrow after 24 hours rest and report on how it performs.
