Re: KJMs house blend
Excellent. Thanks Kev and Galumnay. Roasted this blend with the Wahgi last Saturday before travelling, will open it up tomorrow and try (I drink almost exclusively lattes).

Re: KJMs house blend
I use a Gene or my home-made 1kg roaster (although I made the blue smoke come out of that a couple of weeks ago and havent yet fixed it :-[). My actual technique for this is simple:Originally posted by 405D59594D57340 link=1287301980/194#194 date=1334531802KJM, do you roast to the start of 2C?
1. Full tote odds on the roaster to FC. In the Gene this reliably hits FC in 10mins +/- 30 seconds. Depends slightly on ambient.
2. I wind back the heat on the Gene - for my Gene this means setting an indicated 232/230/228 depending on conditions. This gives me a very reliable 4 mins to the onset of 2C which is where I pull the roast.
Again - this is just me and my roaster - this is with 250g in the Gene. Smaller/larger quantities change the timing a fair bit.
When I say "onset of 2C" this is either one or two snaps are heard, or it is about 10 seconds or so away. For all the inflexibility of the Gene, it is superbly repeatable.
When the roast is done, I do the emergency stop thing and cool the beans externally.
Now - having said thats the way I do it, I also do some minor tweaks :
I only roast on the weekends, so I need enough coffee for the week coming. Which is usually done the week before (pretty much everyone likes this blend with at least 4 or 5 days post-roast ageing). On those all too frequent weeks when Ive run low on roasted beans I tend to do one batch just into 2C. I do that by lifting the heat and keeping the 4 minutes from FC (rather than letting it just go longer - I find that makes the roast somewhat bland).
Hope this helps.
/Kevin
PS: The KJM blend-du-jour currently has the (beloved) Ethiopians substituted for Tanzanian Uru estate - wow - everyone loves that!)

Re: KJMs house blend
I roast this blend (and many variations) regularly. I roast using the P2 setting aiming to hit 1st crack at the start of the second stage power drop. I have figured out for my machine that:
1lb P2 A = 316g (75g/62g/100g/75g)
1lb P2 B = 386g (92g/77g/123g/92g)
1lb P2 C = 430g (103g/86g/138g/103g)
I usually open the door a little for a few seconds as first crack gets rolling. Then second crack tends to occur about 4-5 mins later. I usually stop the roast at the first snaps of 2C and cool with the door open. Pretty pleased with the results Im getting
Edit. Just realised the maths doesnt quite add up perfectly but you get the idea.... I often add or subtract a few grams depending on ambient temperate anyway

Re: KJMs house blend
Does anyone roast the KJM blend in the Behmor? What profile/method have you had successes with?
KJM, do you roast to the start of 2C?

Re: KJMs house blend
I mostly use this bean as my Indo in my version of KJMs blend and it works very well IMO.Originally posted by 494F534D48574B4A240 link=1287301980/191#191 date=1334368546Anyone tried the PNG Wahgi instead of the Indonesian in this blend?
