Re: Blends with Aussie beans?
Yesterday I served up ristrettos of Boomerang/Mandheling.
Almost no sweetness and (to me) strong acidity.
While not my usual cup of tea :-?, I do like it sweet- It was very enjoyable and seemed to resound for ages afterwards.
It was spicy- I think ( hope Im not getting acidity mixed there) and had a lingering "zippy" mouthfeel

Re: Blends with Aussie beans?
This week I am drinking a blend of Boomerang/Limu.
Havent got any taste notes,
but can confirm my expectation of a nice smooth chocolate flavour,
extracts well and is good as espresso or in a latte.

Re: Blends with Aussie beans?
What cultivar are they growing at Capricorn Coast? K7,SL,Bourbons?.....find that out to start with and then you can blend to suit...without destroying the unique flavour that each type produces.Three cheers to those who bother to grow coffee in Aus.

Re: Blends with Aussie beans?
The other week RayzurHed and I were tasting the last batch of Boomerang Naturals that I roasted,
and while it was an excellent SO shot, we also thought it would probably go well with some Limmu, or other African, but havent tried it yet.
Lucas suggestions also seem worth following up.

Ive really enjoyed, and had good feedback about,
40% Brazil Daterra
30% Capricorn
30% PNG Kimel
I think I might try reversing the proportions of Capricorn and Brazil...

Re: Blends with Aussie beans?
Oooh; good question!
Some of the Mountain Top coffees seem fantastic for getting a clean, juicy and sweet espresso blend base set up. I wonder if you couldnt make an all island coffee blend, using some of the more aromatic and flavoursome PNGs, such as the Kimel. Some Yauco Selecto would be awesome, too! I think you could end up with a very clean cupping, sweet blend with a lot of body that would have some faint but nonetheless distinct fruit flavours driving it.
Cuba and hopefully the Dominican Republic seem to have made a bit of a recovery from the cyclones, so they would be worth thinking about, too. And then I guess theres also Hawaiian Kona ...
Island Fever? Maybe I just need a holiday ;P
Cheers,
Luca

Blends with Aussie beans?
EYyyy, anyone blending anything Australian with beans from elsewhere?
When my Tiger Mountain arrives... I might fiddle a bit.. I still have heaps of Cap Coast.. a very nice cocoa-caramelly flavour that produced a nice thick blobby golden crema.. the Cap coast is full of pea berries as well (just for interests sake)..
I was thinkin... I wonder what itd be like - 40% cap coast, 40% tiger mountain, 20% ethiopian sidamo.... I mean thats mostly because I dont have much else. Because the sidamo has a real punchy fruity flavour I dont wanna go overboard, it might spoil the nice smooth mellowness of the cap coast.. and for some reason I just think the flavour of the tiger mountain might pair well with cap coast.. hrm.. could always go a 60:30:10 blend too..
Anyone got any comments, ideas or experience for blending aussie beans?
