Re: What blend do you drink usually?
Like Greenman the Png Kinjibi Peaberry was a great bean I have 1 roast left, but i have found that the latest Png Wahgi is better. Although not a peaberry it is very sweet, also Mtc peaberry is very sweet and very well graded [no odd sized beans in this batch] so these will do for now.

Re: What blend do you drink usually?
Do about 5-7 300gm roasts per week. One or two home blends and the rest SOs.
Trying different roast levels too.
So many beans to try, so little a roaster..................Corretto to the rescue !!!

Re: What blend do you drink usually?
I have produced a few blends that I was exceptionally pleased with but with Andy continually offering new bean varieties to try I tend to continue along the path to discovery, but I do have some favourite SO beans that I return to until I run out of stocks.
My PNG Kinjibi peaberry have gone and I am in search of some more, Costa Rican, Tanzanian the list goes on..............................I scored some Honduras beans today, cant wait to try them.
Just finished roasting some Indian Monsoon Malabar, had a talk to Java and he gave me some hints on roasting these guys, they look ok, a lot lighter than normal roasts so after 7 days I will see if I "love" them or "hate" them!!!!

Re: What blend do you drink usually?
I have one blend that is a 3 bean blend that I particularly like.
At present I have only done it as components and post roasted.
Most of my other blending stems from 50/50 mixtures.
I usually roast 2 SOs on a weekend. I end up with around 500g of each. I have them both going at the same time and we drink them as SOs and together to see if they are worthy of more experimentation.
At present, I have 2 50/50s that I plan to play further with.
Tanzania/Kenya
Peru Grace/Panama RFA
I recently got some of the Indian robusta, so I might try 5-10% of that as well.
In short, I keep playing and do my favourite one once every 6 weeks or so.
Brett.

What blend do you drink usually?
Do all you home roasters have a house blend which you repeat often, or is your journey a continuous experiment?
With my bbq roaster, I have settled on a preroast blend of exactly this (50/50 yirg and sumatra) and with 3 or so months of tweaking my roasting process, I have modified my process to get the best taste from it, and have been getting really nice even results. I am selling my secret blend to friends and family (i disclose the blend proportions on my bag, and have made clear that I dont feel the need to keep it secret) and am getting a wonderful sweetness, a chocolaty cocoa taste, and syrupy body which comes out really nice and evenly on my bottomless portafilter..
This is my current favourite:
Preroast blend
SECRET BLEND
625g yirg
625g sumatra mandehling
with my drum roaster it loses -15-20% mass, which yields 1kg +- of roasted product.
*this is a standard which I am happy with, although I still am roasting, blending, trying, all sorts of others
So to reiterate my first question, do you drink your own secret blend or is your roasting a continuous journey of the taste buds, without looking back?Tags: None
