  • Ethiopian Sidamo Haile Selassie

Wow! What a bean! Someone better grab that last 2.5kg super quick!

7 days post roast and it is an amazing SO doppio, smooth & rich but not too heavy, amazing crema and a fabulous spice/floral aroma that really lingers.

As a SO soy flat white yesterday, the response from my beautiful bride (and I concur fully!) was "it tastes like theres caramel syrup in there!"

As a blend (150g sidamo, 150 brasil & 50 mexican) it still really shines through with the caramel flavours, but with the added complexity of the others.

    Why, o why didnt I get 10kg!

Hrmm... Makes me want to go after the Haile Selasi again. I struggled with the roast curve on it, but it did settle well. Maybe I will get some! Thanks for reminding me just what a lovely Ethiopean coffee it is. Rasta Coffee???

I just used my current standard curve (slightly ramping temp input - 1C @ 12ish, 2C @ 18ish) and it is certainly amazing. Rates almost as highly as the Tanz Uru in my book.

Never got these results out of the Eth Gambella - must be doing something wrong there :-/

I dont get spice or caramel out of Gambella either, my experience of is that its more berry and fruity with an earthy base.

haha, yeah I couldnt pass up a coffee named after Haile Selassie either...

Im loving this stuff. Concur with the more spice/less fruit than most Ethiopians comments. Its also been great as a light roast for Aeropress - has enough body and acidity (which I find most Ethiopians lack) to go with the great aromatics.

Yeah - I got a lovely buttery mouthfeel, but nothing really stood out flavourwise - needed something with some grunt to match with it

I agree. Think that is waht is cutting through the soy really well.

Glad to hear others are enjoying it too!

                  Hi Bob
At 7 days it was really aromatic and caramel-like - Im at 10 days now and it has really developed to a deep rich spicy & cocoa - both in a doppio & through milk.
Soooooo good! You should be excited

They all get pretty good reviews

I have just done a Mocha/java type blend with the Sidamo 60% / Sulawesi blue 40% very nice blend

Roasted to the first snaps of SC CS9 in the corretto

                          Hi Cadan
Done 3-4 roasts of that combo myself - some in the hopper as we speak - and I fully concur! Some of the best blend results I've had. The indo really adds some rich caramel body to that great Sidamo earthy chocolate! Just resting a bag of that combo with a bit of Mexican to add some fruit - we'll see what we get!
