    Election day coffee stall

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
Once again another election seems to have snuck up on me and I put my hand up to run a coffee stall for the local P&C.

Last time through Andys generosity, I ran with espresso WoW. This time I was a little less prepared and had to source my beans locally. So I paid a visit to Veneziano in West End. I sort of made the mistake of chatting to Peter about the new 1kg shop roaster thats sitting there for CS members (and anyone else) to roast their own beans with. What an experience!

Ive been home roasting for about 2 years now and this machine is something else. A totally different way to roast compared to my Corretto set up. Ill definitely be back with some of my own CS beans to have a go... its addictive. Peter, by the way, was using the roaster to develop a new blend and during the roasting he warned us to prepare our palates for some tasting.... If youve visited Veneziano to pick up your bean bay stash, then youll probably have seen a room filled with machines and grinders at the rear right hand side of the shop. It was here that the different parts of the blend were ground and made into shots using the NS Aurelia machine and timed BNC conical grinder.... I suppose it was about 15 shots later... Im not really sure as time started to flow differently in there. Im not strongly affected by caffeine, but after this many shots I felt a little... different.

Anyway, what Im trying to convey is that a visit to Veneziano in west end is a must for any coffee snob, as Peter is passionate about coffee and likes to spread his enthusiasm and is free with hints and tips for roasting and blending. After what was only intended to be a brief trip to get some beans for the coffee stall, but turned into about two hours of roasting and drinking and chatting about the emergence of coffee in Brisbane, I finally emerged with the goods for the stall. (It seems Peter was here at the beginning, originally roasting for Aromas in 1982, when the Deen brothers were demolishing Cloudland and the Special squad had files on most of the Uni students of that day.)

So if anyone is voting in The Gap, Ill be set up outside the voting booths at the Payne Rd. primary school with some Veneziano Forza blend and a two group La Pavoni serving coffee.

    Cheers,

    Mark.

So do I get my caramel infused half strength decaf latte this time Mark? ;D

Ill second your sentiments re Peter & Veneziano ... a welcome arrival to the Briz espresso scene with his passion, & array of toys to seduce us CSrs.

Might see you next round of cuppings Mark ;)

    Cheers,
    Tony

Ahh Tony, for you Ill bring a very special coffee. You may have heard of Kopi Luwak and Monkey Parchment coffees. Well I have a local variant called Possum roof coffee. This is a rare and delicate coffee made from very special beans that possums deposit on my roof each night. Truly a taste to remember.

However, if you insist on the caramel infused quarter strength soy latte, who am I to refuse you. Just be warned that it may taste like a double shot ristretto....

    Cheers,

    Mark.

Geez Mark, I know times are a bit tough, but ... well bring it to the next cupping - well put it through Peters Hario ;D

Is the P&C aware of the, er, range of your home-roasting experiments mate? :-?
