Friday morning coffee + confusing the wife
I almost never make coffee at the house but the wife has been disposing of her late fathers estate and decided to bring his almost new coffee maker to the house.
She started to make me a pot this morning with his coffee (Maryland Club - yuck) and I stopped her before she dropped the grounds in.
I told her, "I cant stand that stuff - use the grounds we have in the ice box."
She looked at me funny and said, "We have coffee in the ice box?".
I said, "Yeah, from when we had that last coffee maker. The one that Kevin (our son) broke and I never replaced.......?".
She shook her head and said, "Wasnt he still in elementary school when he broke that?".
(He graduated high school last year.)
I said, "Yeah, it was before we moved to Cotton County in 97 but its been in the ice box so it should be alright."
She said, "Well, if you can find it and you really want to drink twelve year old coffee you go right ahead but Im not making it. I dont care to be an accessory to poisoning someone".
I dug it out of the crisper drawer where it has resided since the start of the second Clinton term (in a sealed quart glass jar), threw some grounds in the filter and fired the pot up.
It tastes damned good and so far Ive not gone blind.
