Slightly OT but Debs most excited about the fact that her new "married" name is in print. Out with "Debbie Moses" in with "Debbie Monteleone" ...

ah, dang it - I thought I was going to be able to post this one first! Good spotting Ben..

Also good to see Andy mentioned as an authority!

No mention of home roasting, perhaps that will be the next big thing, once people realise how much cheaper and entertaining it is?

Hmmm, now how long will it take me to pay off the VBM and M4 at two doubles per day? ;D

Congratulations Charlie and Deb! Great news, indeed.

I hadnt yet read the article so didnt catch that status change but you kept it quiet.

I assume Deb married you so she wouldnt have to change her initials ;)

    Cheers

Somehow, I doubt Andy "recommended the new Breville with built-in grinder"!!!

Sounds better than one of the fully autos though. Asking the average punter to part with about $700 for a coffee machine when they can pick one up for $150 is probably not an easy sell. Break them in easy before upgradits sets in. ;D

    Re: Find your inner barista

    FYI
After a phone call from the Telegraph on Thursday morning I said I would email some links to the machines so she knew what I had been talking about. I also rang and left a message Thursday lunch time (as we had organised a photoshoot with a Sydney CSr) but never got a call back. (grrrr)

I assume Lorna was on a super short deadline, pity because there was plenty more we all could have added to an article like that.
Maybe next time her management will allow more time?

PS: The new Breville BES860 was mentioned as something that I was having a look at and will review in the next couple of weeks. The machine will then be auctioned off for a FairCrack fundraiser.

    Hi Lorna,

Here are some of the most popular home machines in use by members of our website. All of them have a passionate following and the owners are happy with the results produced. Prices range around $800 for the first three machines and the second group are more around the very serious end of the home market, circa $2700.

Domestic grinder prices vary from the Sunbeam EM0480 (circa $200) to the near café quality Mazzer Mini at $800

    Mazzer Mini

So for a super home setup, the ECA Giotto and a Mazzer Mini will set you back $3500 odd but will produce coffee every bit as good as most cafes.

    Hope that helps!

    Regards,

    Andy.

So is it true you are the new Breville ambassador?
What will all the site sponsors think?
    ;)

    about the article itself

Mrs Heinrich, a travel consultant who works from home, makes herself one or two coffees a day rather than visiting her local cafe.

"I rarely buy takeaway and Im saving a lot," she said.

"A bag of beans is about $12, and it lasts us two weeks, with my husband and I having one or two coffees each per day."

The couple are saving $78 per week by making their own coffee. Four takeaway coffees per day, at an average price of $3 each, would cost $12 per day or $84 per week.

Making their coffee from home costs $6 per week for the beans.
Is it me, or is that spreading the beans a bit too thinly? I personally go through a bag in under 2 wks and this is 1 double shot a day.
    5senses 200g (or 250g i cant remember) for $12/bag.

    Re: Find your inner barista

"A bag of beans" could be a "special" from the supermarket ie 500g plus, they could also be using small baskets which stretch the bag even further. Best not to do the maths as it wont add up to good coffee.

    Behmor Brazen - $249 - Free Freight
Best case scenario, one half-shot coffee each per day, ie.

    2*3.5g*14 = 158 g

Likely case scenario, two normal shots per person per day, ie.

    4*7g*14 = 392g

Worst case scenario, two double shots per person per day, ie.

    4*14g*14 = 784g

    [hr]

Im not sure what the size of the bag is, but it wouldnt surprise me if theyre exaggerating at least somewhat. That said, its still a good thing these folk are getting into coffee!
