Im in HK at the moment taking some R&R with family, the coffee here is not good Charbucks and Pacific seem to dominate serving up their generic brews but charging not too generic prices. At a cafe where we had a meal last night a coffee cost $36HK dollars or around $7bucks Oz, I found a decent cafe yesterday a ristretto cost $20 ($4) but the milk drinks go up to $30 ($6) my hotel plunger has been getting a fair bit of work!!

Its the same in many countries within South East Asia and the lack of good coffee can result in very high prices for good quality imported domestic coffee machines. In Thailand a Rancilio Silvia is going to set you back around $1100 on its own!

Yeah, Asia is expensive for coffee, even the not-so-good stuff. *I frequent a coffee shop here in Taichung called Retro. *The coffee, in my mind, is quite good, but its pricey. *Its about 5.60AUD for Clover, French press, or drip (take out is about 3.20AUD).

If youre on a relatively short trip, an AeroPress, Turkish grinder, and freshly roasted beans is a very good idea. *That Kyocera is looking promising, too. *I just need to get more information on its ability to grind for French press.
