    Turning Coffee snob Slowly

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
hi, I am newbie and am really wondering whether I have too become snobbish and a coffee drinker with an attitude? *:-?

Does it happen , do we start judging our coffee and turn to be coffee snob so fast? Is it all that wrong to judge coffee, i dont think so what do you think? *:-/

Ah, this is an interesting subject. All I ask of all coffeesnobs is to differentiate between coffee you like or dont and coffee thats good or not. You are allowed to dislike a good coffee, but you are not allowed to talk badly of it. There are plenty of very good coffees I dont like, but I can appreciate the style of them. This is my pet hate amongst coffeesnobs, if you dont like it, it doesnt mean its bad coffee. Please try to keep an open mind and appreciate all good coffee for what it is.

Agreed. There was a discussion on HB not so long ago about whether taste should be subjective or objective, my take was very similar to what you write above - you can recognise that a coffee is "good" without liking its taste.

    Re: Turning Coffee snob Slowly

I think one should struggle to say a coffee is bad - its just not to ones liking.

An example - I roast for a few friends and one family really did not like Ethiopian Sidamo Koratie, in fact they gave around 400gms away. Others absolutely loved it and happily took the beans that family didnt want.

So, is it a bad coffee?

    Chris

    ...I like it!! :D

I thought the same thing at first but I have a feeling Chris doesnt mean badly made coffee or coffee made from stale beans.

Tying in with earlier posts in the thread its about preferences, and one coffee drinkers passion might be anothers poison

Im with Thundergod on this one!

There are coffee that are great but I dont like. The last Yirgi from Bean bay was amazing! But I didnt like it.

But on the other hand I have had coffee that is bad. I mean who is going to say that coffee made from severely over/under roasted beans that are 3 years old and nothing but quakers is good?

On the same point who says you cant like bad coffee?
I like the band Metallica but if some tells me they are bad I am happy to agree!

I guess it is how you view "bad" and "good". Technically or to your liking?

    See, we dont disagree.

I do understand the difference between bad coffee and coffee I dont like.

    Same with wine.

I dont like drinking red wine.
At most I may have a glass of a particularly good one.

If my wife offers me a taste of her wine , one sip is enough to distinguish how good it is (like it or not).

    Re: Turning Coffee snob Slowly

TG I have had many bad coffees as well, most recently a couple of weeks ago when we had to go to Coffs Harbour for the weekend. *:(

Bad enough that I had a Kyocera hand grinder delivered yesterday. *;D

I guess I read Pioneer Roasters post a little differently and didnt explain myself very well... :-[
