Same interviews & same content that the Age has been running weekly for the last 3 months. Surely there is something more interesting to say other than Sydney has better coffee than Melbourne and St Ali is the holy grail of coffee. Seriously.

Yes, my need for quality coffee.

No one in the real world understands why I wont settle for Lavazza.

That article has sparked off a few coffee conversations around the office, which has involved me pointing a few interested people to this website. It may not be entirely accurate, but the jist is there and its got people thinking about coffee quality...so thats a win in my opinion.

I think it clearly points out though that many people dont know what a good coffee is, which in my experience, couldnt be more true.

The article explains that many people think that if the cup of coffee has good texture and art, then it must be a good coffee.

Personally, i couldnt care less if the coffee has art on top. Usually im pleased if it doesnt. If baristas actually learnt the proper procedures that go into coffee making, then i think that the poulation as a whole would get a rude shock. Many Australians wouldnt know what good coffee is, and settle for mediocre. I for one, do not. If its not right, i send it back.

Have given up on the "sending back" as I always get a stunned look and generally followed by the "everyone else likes my coffee" so I just drink coffee at home.

I can sort of understand where you are coming from but the places I buy coffee from (few and far between) make excellent coffee and if the barista wants to put some nice art on top because he/she wants you to have a visual as well as a taste experience, then thats a bonus.

    P.S. Welcome to Coffee Snobs.

Yep, Im exactly the same. I dont send it back anymore, but, if I can get close enough, I also have a good look at the barista station before ordering a coffee.

For me it is generally the sound that brings me in or sends me away, short sharp grinder time (tick grind to order) milk gentle tich tich (tick milk shouldnt be murdered) time to pay money. If those sounds arent there I will generally get a softdrink or tea.
