Using a fridge water filter for a coffee machine??

Just wondering what people in the know think about using an inline water filter designed for a fridge (5micron) as opposed to using one designed for a coffee machine?? Are they the same thing?

A five micron filter will remove most of the larger sediment and (probably) the chlorine, so it is sure better than nothing.

Unfortunately, this means the dissolved minerals will (likely) be untouched, so the scaling remains the same, and the smaller sediment, between 1 and 5 microns in diameter, gets through.

It all depends on your water. I prefer the system I have now, a 1 micron carbon filter and an ion-exchange softener, especially with the reticulated water here.
