    Wicked Sunday 2010

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
Im planning on heading over to Melbourne for the Food and Wine Festival and Wicked Sunday.
Is WS the last Sunday of the festival March 21st?
Theres so much new coffee action I want to check out and meeting heaps of CSers at Wicked Sunday would cap it off nicely.

    Greenman,

Keep in mind there is also "The coffee experience" that Beanscene is putting together, or involved in. Not much info or industry hype about it yet, but it might be worth holding out for.

Check the beanscene website for a tiny little bit more information.

    Hold your horses guys...

Wicked Sunday has been killed-off and the replacement event is a "ticketed entry" ($25 per head). Its an interesting idea and we are in discussions with the event commitee to see if we can make it work.

More news when it comes to hand.

    Wicked Sunday was killed-off

The replacement event was also killed last week.

As I understand it... The company that was managing the venue had a BIG fallout with the council over a different issue and the council now wont approve the permits for this event.

So there is no coffee event in the Melbourne Food and Wine festival this year. Apparently roasters week is still going ahead and a few roasters will open their doors (often for a fee) but that is the only thing happening.

Thats very disappointing. Last years event was huge, you would have thought it would just keep going year after year.

A CSer catchup close to the CBD sounds good...

    Andy,

if I could arrange some space for a day in and around one of the old sheds in Docklands (most likely gratis or a very very low cost) are you interested in doing something just as a CS roast and play day?

    Re: Wicked Sunday 2010

How disappointing that Melbourne F&W have let an event that once attracted 50,000+ become a non-event...

I was suss when I received a call a few weeks ago offering us a site at a very attractive rate and I reckon they would have accepted pretty much whatever we were prepared to pay. Their initial rates were well in excess of those charged for Aromafest. It looked like a*last minute fire sale to me... *::)

My thoughts were that F&W were being greedy by going indoors and charging entry, I figured theyd discourage 90% of people from attending and like a charged Sydney event a couple of years ago, it would be cricket in the aisles- fun, but not particularly productive. Seems that F&W were more successful than that as now 100% wont be attending...

    Very sad....

The fact that they made it a ticketed event turned me off it from the start, i was there in 2009 and met Andy and his popcorn popper army and some fellow snobs

Heres hoping that the even beanscene are going to have will be something like what celebrate the bean was

Yes it disappoints me to see that every event lately has to carry a gate charge. Why is that? Can the organisers and council superbrains not be happy just covering all costs with the exhibitor fees alone and just let the event be a cultural drawcard for what it is? A community event that promotes the city for tourism :-?.
