    Coffee and health!

    I dont know if this has been discussed, i have done a search. Coffee and health! Is it good for us? Is it baaaaaad for us? :)

    Ive read opposing arguments. Some say the antioxidants are great for us. Then some say that there are also free radicals in coffee that cancel out the effects of the antioxidants. Here are some great links:

    Is there a definitive answer of yet? Are there any other studies/articles people have read that hold any sort of truth? (and ones that arent based on hype and exaggeration? ;) )

    Depends on who you talk to...

    Many items have been promoted by people in the know and that some things are 100%... But many years on, found to be wrong.

    Cigs
    Blood letting
    Not bathing

    Gravity


    The only thing that is definitive; is that life is followed by death. Every thing in between is a matter of conjecture.

    I mean 2 + 2 = 5 So just accept it and enjoy... Why spend the time here stressing... Ya only got one go at it.

    As in all of medicine, the answer is...it depends.

    How do you define health and healthy?
    How can you judge something that has a million effects, some beneficial, some detrimental and some neither or both depending on circumstances, as being healthy or not healthy?
    In the end everything is about balancing as best we can.

    The good thing is, coffee is a drug that has been used for an awfully long time and yet we have no evidence that it is about to kill you, so relatively speaking it is a very safe drug.

    And AM:

    As stated previously... Many do not read every thing... They see the bits they want and then their mind goes off on a tangent..

    As to will it kill you -

    1: If you get burried by it
    2: If try to live on coffee alone -
    3: 3 months in India having coffee purges and coffee enema or colonic irrigation every day - people do!!!
    4: Smuggling coffee and getting caught in a man trap or by a pissed of farmer.. Opps was there some other stuff in that bag ;D

    As my wife says... Every thing in MODERATION...

    Thats why I look forward to my Birthday and X-Mas :D ;D ;)

    haha.. im certainly not stressing, just was wondering about the healthful benefits or opposing effects.

    And exactly, define healthy ay.. I guess that which improves health and functioning of the whole being is what is called healthy..

    P.S. Wasnt aware that i cant post links up! Why is that just out of curiosity?

    Coffee contains more antioxidants then green tea even after roasting.

    It has been found to decrease the chance of alzeimers(spelling?) desease.

    Stimulates metabolism and brain wave functions.

    IS NOT an overall diaratic... it has initial diaretic properties but has been found that coffee drinkers dont need to compensate for loss of fluids in an overall day.

    I recommend reading the final chapter in Illy and Viani. Its provides a critical review of the literature associating coffee with the negative connotations that it has wrongfully attained by society, in addition to highlighting beneficial aspects to our health.

    Nevertheless, the general conclusion I reached after reading the chapter was that more longitudinal, controlled studies were needed.

    Try a search for "coffee research health" (without quotes) and read what the scholarly press has to say. Anything would be better than newspapers or web sites with an agenda.

    And unfortunately even the published scholars are known to falsify results and frequently get away with it for years. :(
