    Video - Bezzera Galatea

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
    Hi everyone
I had some time up my sleeve and decided to upload a video of me pulling a double shot on the Bezzera Galatea

Beans Used - Sumatra Blue Linton (home roasted on the KKTO Roaster)

Look at the thick liquid pour and the chocolate crema at the bottom of the cup

And yes it tasted very nice * ::)
    Enjoy

Very nice KK, 20 seconds! is that your standard pour or do you vary with bean types? :)

I set the timer on 20 seconds
    Reason being
I take a couple of seconds to switch the timer on and a couple of seconds to switch off so its 24 to 25 seconds by the end of the pour

    hey KK,

nice camerawork and a beautiful machine :)

just thinking in my head "they look like nice shots - a tiny bit fast for my desired flow rate from the galatea (she squeals when you do it right imo ;)) but as each shot is going to be different, why not pay attention to the pour instead of the timer?

also thinking about getting a timer here, so I know how long my pours actually are.

The Galatea will squeal when its is calibrated to 9 Bar
Its the noise the spring makes
I have mine calibrated at the factory setting

Im with John on this one. I am by no means an expert, but I would be using the timer as a guide and by no means a definitive point to stop the pour - in fact, I would have stopped that pour about 4 seconds earlier than you did (if the colour of the camera is accurate). It did look like a quick pour.

Any way, main thing is that it tasted good!

I wasnt suggesting the pour was too fast, in fact the exact opposite, thought it was pretty well spot on. :)

    Hmmm... :-?

Timing my espresso shots ::). I think the last occasion that I actually used any kind of timing device was at least 5 years ago and maybe even longer. Now, where did I put that stop-watch.... :-/

Nice pours by the way KK.... 8-)

    Re: Video - Bezzera Galatea

As a general rule I dont time the pours
    I stop prior to blonding

The timer just looks good on the video for a WWW audience

Same reason I used large cups to see the thick oooze of the pour

When I get time I will do another video (no timer) with a combo of
    1 X demitasse cup & 1 X glass measure *

    Re: Video - Bezzera Galatea

I started timing shots when I bought my first machine (Krups) about 10 years ago, the habit carried over to the Silvia (had that for 8 years, and to this day I glance at my watch as I start the shot.
Like you guys I dont stop the shot right on a predetermined time however timing kinda keeps me in the ball park, guess Im a creature of habit. ;)

    Re: Video - Bezzera Galatea

    Sorry, slight hijack here.
Well this is my problem... My shots dont look like that at all????
Mine seem to extract at about the same rate but start black and dont seem to have that nice thick crema colour about them.

Could this be a response to too much pressure. My guage on the Domobar hits 11 bar briefly at the beginning and drops back to about 10 bar see photo below.

    Re: Video - Bezzera Galatea

May not necessarily be a problem. There should be about one bar pressure difference between the gauge and the grouphead.

My shots often start off black as well. Different grinds, beans and bean age will affect the extraction.

How do the shots taste? Do you end up with crema in the cup after extraction?

    Re: Video - Bezzera Galatea

    Thanks Flynn
It had already been suggested that the quality of beans Im using might be dodgy. It was just that I understood 9 bar was about the maximum pressure and thats not what my gauge was telling me.

I have some (hopefully) better quality beans now so Ill give them a go.
    Cheers

Just to continue the hi-jack for brief moment, and then back on track:

IMO nothing beats your own home-roasted beans. You get them to the exact shade and taste that matches your preferences, and you can consume them as fresh or as aged as you want.

Notice that KKs extraction was home-roasted Sumatra Blue Lintong! (A favourite of mine, too.)
