    What did folks do in the old days ?

    Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
    Hi everyone, as I read thru the posts and consider spending more money on a better grinder and machine I stopped myself this morning and asked ...

    What did people do in the old days before espresso machines ????

    Surely they appreciated coffee before these expensive machines ???

    shun the unbeliver!!! ;D ;D

    Theres plenty of other ways to brew coffee, syphon, plunger, pour over for example, all of which are much more cost effective options than espresso hardware. You can certainly appreciate coffee when brewed using these methods.

    Espresso means machinery though and that means money! Doesnt mean you have to guy crazy and spend bazillions though ... ;)

    "From "The Improved Housewife"

    1843: "... dry them first in an iron pot, over a moderate fire, for some hours before they are roasted. Hang the pot so high as to not burn it. After drying three or four hours, place it on a hot bed of coals, and stir it constantly until roasted enough which is determined by biting one of the lightest colored kernels. If brittle, pronounce the whole thing done."

    For a second there I thought I was going to be reported (yet again) for breaches of PC.....

    I would love to have a *feedback option like some forums... Thumbs up or Down... Often people dont comment but may find teh post useful etc..

    That way I could watch teh counts and be able to off set X * [smiley=thumbsup.gif] *- *Y *[smiley=thumbdown.gif]... * So long as I stayed positive overall... I would be OK

    I also have a copy of the NEW Standard Cookery (illustrated) 1933 (983 pages).... Coffee is covered on page 515

    Oh so so so not PC :D ;D :o ::) 8-)
