    coffee pillows??

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
Hi, I have only had a quick look through this site so forgive me if the answer to my question is here somewhere.
Ive just returned from the US where in hotel rooms the coffee filters use "pillows" of ground coffee, enough in each bag to fill a standard caraffe. Ive been looking in shops and sites in Australia, but cant seem to find them, can anyone help. Thanks.

    Welcome to Coffee Snobs.

The only help I can offer is that if these pillows of which you speak contain ground coffee then it will be stale.

You can do much better if you want to drink a good coffee.

    Yep... Agree

The ones I saw were just large tea pot type bags and some were sealed in a foil ( to attempt to retain freshness... 12mths expiry) ..

Just like some of the coffee bags ya get in the supermarket...

    Opps.. Stale...

I think Robert Timms do a coffee bag like that, check out the supermarket but .....

For a better cup with minimal effort why not buy a cheap grinder, some freshbeans from a roaster in your area (which by the way are no more expensive than the stale supermarket beans) & a plunger or similar. Your coffee would be sensational and youll be learning all about fresh coffee.

Harris also do coffee bag/pillows and I have seen the larger version available commercially for restaurants who wish to make the food seem adequate by lowering the standard of every other element and aspect of their business: plastic chairs, rude unhappy wait-staff, unclean toilets, airconditioners at 1/3 power and fluro lights. Yep, I could go a deep fried lasagne and a Robert Tims right now...

    BTW, welcome to snobs;-)

    Hmmm, yes.
Came across several boxes of these at a place we stopped at in rural France last year, and thought why not - must be what the locals do !
First attempt with 1 in an electric drip machine produced a wet incipped brew similarly coloured to weak tea.
For the second attempt, we cut open the top of one bag, placing it in the machine more like a conventional filter paper, then cut open a second bag and poured it on top.
With the coffee being stale anyway, you can pretty well guess at the results - better than the first try anyway.

In the interests of trying to simplify the clean up, this really misses the mark (unless we had it terribly wrong). Hardly worth the trouble I would suggest.
