    Re: motta tamping base

    Good question!

There are a few different brands on the market and Im yet to try them but they seem like a good way of keeping the spouts off the bench and protecting the kitchen surface/edges too.

I look forward to reading what people that use them think.

Im going to get one. Tamping a single spout holder can be a wobbley pain. And anything that protects the filter spouts and the bench top - stainless steel in my case - has to be useful I reckon.

I like the rubber encased stainless ones. But then again I might just make a nice wooden one.

This is the one that I use and they make tamping a lot easier specially when using the single spout. Well worth the money and as Andy said it saves damaging the bench..

    Cheers Gra.. ;)

I bought a no name one a while back on Ebay from our latest sponsor Coffee-a-Roma. I love it and its especially handy on those rare occasions I use the single spout.

It seems to be well constructed and should be fine for those who favour Neanderthal tamping pressures.

I just got this stand at Christmas and find it useful for keeping the spouts clean. I got by for 3-years without it but like it now that I have it.

Just wondering if metal to metal is the way to go. Somethings going to get scratched and its more likely to be the plating on the brass filter handle.

After reading this thread curiousity got the better of me. I bought a stand from sponsor coffee-a-roma - $29.95 inc post. Good value and a nice product I use all the time. Recommended.

I am going to build one
Similar to a couple posted on CS some time ago

I will be using Industrial rubberised cork sheets
Then laminate them to the thickness I require

Ive got the Bumper stand as well and really like it. great for protecting my kitchen bench - especially considering I rent my house - and still gives me a nice flat surface to work on. I wouldnt be without it.
