Id love to go, Warren - if we could make it for some time in late March onwards, though, that would be great for me. *Petes away in America for the next six weeks, so Im flying solo with the kids at the moment.

However, if everyone comes back and wants to make a date before that, Ill live with it... (*sigh* matyrdom is such a lonely beast!) *::)

    Cheers

There there Di, have a tissue and a lie down ;D get down off your burning pyre and have a coffee instead.

Give me a chance to check the footy schedules Warren, now the season has started I work a second job at the footy so want to make sure I have a day free. Plus I am going to probably need a lift if possible, my missus wont give up the car for a day for me to go visit A coffee plantation.

Re: Mt Tamborine Coffee Plantation - A day trip for snobs!

I caught up with teh NEW Kees (Had a hair cut) at teh Barista comp..

Nearly killed me in a Bear hug and stated it was good to catch up with another over the top mad CSs ;D

    Count me in..

He has restricted hrs for many reasons and for me... Week days can be a pain..

But am happy to see what I can manage with some notice... The other option might be a CS special day... Plantation etc but not have his lovley wife working in teh kitchen etc..

Any way.. 2m of mulch, 1m of sandstone rocks and 300 bricks have arrived and I have to get some work done before my wife takes me out ?? Dont know what for ;)

nah i think youve missed out on enough brissie events Di!, so well make a tentative estimate of Mid to late march?....
come to think of it, im pretty restricted for weekends myself in my current job, i can only make 14th March :-? so if you cant make that date itll have to be April sometime......

Re: Mt Tamborine Coffee Plantation - A day trip for snobs!

Hi Warren - thats exactly a week before Pete gets home (he gets back on the 21st)! :-[

You guys go, though, if the majority rules that that day works, and Ill just catch up at the next one.

Id still come and bring the kidlets, but Id spend so much time keeping an eye out for them that I wouldnt get full enjoyment out of the day like I would if I was alone, or Pete was with me to share some of the kiddie herding.

Otherwise, any time after the 21st is good for me and Id clear my calendar accordingly!

    :)

    Cheers

Nooooo...shift change at work means weekends are out for me for the 6 to 8 weeks.

Mind if I join ya in the martyrdom pit there Di? ;D Can wallow in self pity, get a soft bellied shrink to diagnose me with depression, and fill to the gills with pills. Hey, Im a poet and I didnt even knoet. 8-)

May have to do a day trip down there one Tues or Wed once shift changes, if anyone wants to tag along.

Re: Mt Tamborine Coffee Plantation - A day trip for snobs!

Thanks Warren - I could definitely get a week day off with a bit of notice - Id just take an annual leave day so its no real biggie there. Probably Pete couldnt be there if this was the case, though. Hed probably happily come along on a weekend, though, Id say and we can start educating the kids in Herbazu Horticulture! ;)

Nothings planned at this stage for April at all on my side, so Im happy to work in with whatever there, so just pick a date and Ill make sure I clear our calendar accordingly (by hook or by crook!)

Phew, glad you were there in the burning pyre with me MP - my eyebrows were starting to get singed! ;D

    Cheers

For all those who havent been. I made the trip up the plantation over xmas. It was a great experience. Kees is a man with great knowledge, from the moment you walk in you feel welcomed.
For me seeing how the whole process from tree to what we drink was great. I now have a better understanding of wet hauled and dry processed coffee.
I purchased about 2kg of beans and to actually be involved with separating the husks from the bean makes the coffee Im now drinking even sweeter.
Anyway for those that live in SE QLD and you enjoy your coffee, you would be mad not to visit, even if it meant having a day off work....

If youre making a special trip it would be worth a phone call first.

Unfortunately Murphy got me. ::) Not too bad because it was a detour on a drive I had to do anyway. :-/

But I will be back. Neither rain nor snow nor Energex shall keep a snob ...

Dammed if we do and either way..

Better be on the way home or the coffee experience will never happen.. Can you arrange for a bus to get us all back home and to collect our transport as well.

    Sounds good to me.

Petes home next Saturday (at this stage)...yay!!! Never thought Id miss the old boy as much as I have this time around!

I have a bit of a stumbling block to a mid week journey now, though - Ive just accepted a position out past Toowoomba and will be busy training for the first 6 months or so, so Im down for only being able to do weekends now.

Re: Mt Tamborine Coffee Plantation - A day trip for snobs!

My ideal time would be a weekday - then I can take a days leave and spoil myself with some "Me time"- no weekend worries and commitments and kids stuff - my wife would anyway get bored if she tagged along.

    - but having said that i will try and fit in with everyone else.

Are we any closer to discussing dates?

My ideal time would be a weekday *
Might be worth checking if weekends are even an option. I thought they were closed on weekends.

Id like to come along too. So, no date yet? Is that right?

I have 2 year old twin boys and a 4 year old who have to accompany me though, and Hubby too if hes not away with work. I can go anytime.

My kids are fairly used to coffee shops and doing adult stuff and as long as they have food are pretty controllable. gotta love boys, just have to keep feeding them.....

Has crossed my mind. They miraculously "found" the cat food in the tv cabinet but could not remember where they stuck the remote. Luckily I needed to make a phone call and found it myself.....

Ok spoke to Maria from the plantation, she said that they would be delighted for us to head on down for a tour, i asked about weekends, unfortunately kees wasnt there, so she grabbed my number and she is going to get him to call me this afternoon or tomorrow as ultimately its up to him obviously, she did mention that processing of the beans wont generally occur until Aug/Sept and it continues right through to Xmas.

What are peoples opinions as far as postponing it till processing time?

Im happy to go whenever, the tour and knowledge Kees has is enough to keep me enthralled :o

Will post when Kees calls me back......

    I am happy to postpone..

The main reason is that trees grow beans and that is interesting... *Further more if you watch them very closely under the right conditions ya can see them grow *:D

However to be there during picking / processing etc etc would add a whole new concept to it all.

Besides I want to get my shoes off and crush some in a bucket or a vat.... Opps thats a different berry / cherry*:D

Any way... Would be happy to delay for a while....

    Either way, Id be happy!

Should sort out another get together though soon to keep us going, if thats the case, though.

Anyone up for a get together at somewhere like Supreme Roasters at Yatala as an alternative or somewhere similar - your mates place down the road from you AM that youve been to a couple of times?

    Cheers
    Di

Sounds like it would be worth waiting until Aug/Sept and the processing season for an organised visit.

Forget the Roaster... Still under covers... But been looking at large gas BBQ jets to suit.... So a future project.

Have a few tables and some cover in teh back yard..

If still here; we could christen the KLIIB rebuild.... And spot the Em69AMB ;D

I am happy for most weekends and Sundays are the preferred.

If some one arranges... Just confirm a date or two with me and its done...

WS has been doing it a bit tough I think...

Like a few of us... Family and parents are starting to see less light each day......

PM him as he is still interested in modding that roaster we got him for his wedding present...

And I am still up for a visit - As I want to learn more about making use of my coffee trees.
