My mum loves coming over for a coffee. She now finds it difficult to drink instant.

Im tempted to set her up with a machine and grinder but worry shell struggle to use it and just give up.

Will soon be picking up an old Cimbali Domus I got for $20 off the bay this week. If that cleans up ok may give it to her along with my EM0480 which is currently sitting under my desk here at work.

    I hear your.
My parents are the same and so are my wifes parents.
Although they do enjoy fresh coffee that i make them they just like the ease of the instant.
I guess for them its simple, easy and its no worse than what they have been drinking as a standard for years.
I know i will never change mine so i dont put the effort in to try but rather know that when them come to my place they only ever get the "real" thing.

Its not all that weird, my mum loves her blend 43 also. She grew up on it and thats why she loves it.
I dont mind a bit of instant every now and then myself either.

Same with a friend she put 3 heaped teaspoons of sugar in a double ristretto I made from some rather expensive beans, didnt finish it and then told me her Nespresso was better.

I nearly threw her over the balcony.

Anyway I just resigned myself to the fact that she is swayed by gimmicks, but is entitled to her own opinion and taste regardless.

Or... Return the compliment and when eating dinner or snacks prepared by Nespresso lover, request a can of Pal and some stale bread instead! If you do follow through however you may need the shot of Nexpresso to take the edge off!

I have managed to convert one or two diehard instant drinkers over time and then there are the ones that I just leave right alone... ;D

I understand that it is now possible for children to "divorce" their parents. Just do it and the pain will go away.

Im sure there are lots of parents out there who would love to be adopted by a CoffeeSnob child.

Count me in! My parents and even my siblings prefer instant coffee. They all prefer Maxwell House or Tasters Choice. I guess its really just a matter of taste huh. And I guess they find brewing fresh coffee a hassle.

Im willing to forgive older people for nescafe and other decent instants... but when they say Internation Roast, thats a whole other story.

My mother was one of those instant people before i lived with her for health reasons.

Now she cant drink the stuff anymore and knows a good cup from a bad one. She almost can guess what SO im using now.

Oh! And i have taken her from a weak white with 2 girl to a double restretto with one :D ;D ;)

Roast him a 50% Robusta blend. True!

I know a few instant coffee drinkers that are hooked on the robusta flavour in instant and love a fresh robusta/brazil blend.

...then over time you can lessen the robusta percentage.

Long term instant drinkers are hard to sway but that is also the fun of the challenge.

I had a laugh!!! I think thats the best option here XD. Wow, i am bedazzled by that! Yeah... i guess its just a matter of being set in her own ways, which is totally cool. She just doesnt know what shes missing out on :).

OH and off topic, but Andy, Jesse Hyde from The Dancing Goat Cafe in Melbourne told me to tell you to come pay them a visit hehe, was there the other week and i met him and his bro, great guys :). We had a chat bout ya, I think he misses you ;D
