    Contact for AASCA?

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
I dont suppose any members on here also work for AASCA. Ive left a couple of voicemails and sent a couple of messages through their website but havent had any response.

Im just trying to get my membership details so that I can purchase something through the website as a member.

    Cheers

    NSW?

They will probably get back to you after they get back to me.

I did the same as you more than 6 months ago and am still waiting.

Perhaps they are all too busy attempting to pour latte art into their respective navels?

    Re: Contact for AASCA?

    Hi All,

Ross Quail here AASCA President. I have been in touch with Alex and the reason for the delay was me being on holidays.
Not sure I appreciate the banter but I take these things in my stride I guess.
Just some points Id like to make though, if you think AASCA is staffed by paid workers in an airconditioned office youd be wrong. I have spent almost half my annual leave in the past 4 years, time out of my job and spending my own money doing my utmost for something I feel strongly about, The Australian Coffee Industry. I regret not getting back to Alex sooner but I needed a holiday and a brief stint with the family and thats that.
Im happy to admit Ive made some mistakes here and there but I have succeeded for the most part I believe.

Dennis I would like to help you out with your inquiry that has been overlooked. I do usually answer emails and despite what has been said I am concerned that we overlooked your questions. You can reach me at president@aasca(dot)com

On another note I am always happy to accept help from volunteers among our members. I get approx. 50 -100 emails a week and I handle that as well as many others things as you can imagine.

    Thanks for your time.

    Ross

    Hi Ross,

I think Alex was simply looking for a response, rather than an narky rant...

Everybody needs a holiday now and then. Perhaps in situations like this, it may be worth getting someone else to check the mail and put the milk bottles out too? *:-?

Makes an organisation look all professional and such.... ;)

Here here... Proxy access can assist big time as well as rules to manage e-mail load or even the dreaded "out of office bounce".

Communications.. I dont care if I get a leave message or even a quick note to say... Busy and will get back to you in a week etc.

At least then, one can plan and get on with what ever..

But a nil reply leaves one totally powerless and that is frustrating and dammed annoying.

Just like "Under construction" ... If you can put in teh meta data and enough key words so that my search finds you... Dont then tell me ya under construction / maintenance and have a last updated of two years previous etc.

Communications is about a timely bidirectional transfer of data.

Any thing less; is just a smoke screen.

I dont see that you did anything wrong Den....

Volunteer or not, there is a responsibility to members- and to prospective members. If you step forward to take on a role, you then do the job, whether paid or not. If you resent it, its time to go.

AASCA has a pool of over 11000 aligned CSers here representing the full spectrum of home geek to long established industry- and yet it would appear that penetration remains close to zero. The question remains as to how to create an offer which is relevant and makes a potential member place hand in pocket.

My earlier remarks werent helpful, though I find it a little amusing that AASCA only appear to come online whenever some criticism is directed toward them.

I do agree with your comments wholeheartedly.

Also if done properly some more potential helpers to ease the workload on the committee. One man bands are hard work at the best of times. Time to a membership drive from the AASCA.

    Re: Contact for AASCA?

It appears that Iíve created rather a storm in a piccolo glass which was not my intention.

    To clarify.

I became a member of and continue to support AASCA to increase my exposure to and to demonstrate my support to speciality coffee in Australia.

Through AACSA I have had access to events that I would not otherwise and reduced price on public access events.

The reason for my post on here for contact details was not to provide an opportunity or ammunition with which to snipe at AASCA but simply because I was anxious to make contact with AASCA.

I have a very good relationship with my boss who provides me with good flexibility to manage my work/life balance. Part of maintaining this relationship is that I try to give him at least a fortnight notice for leave where I can.

Thanks to not just Ross but also Tom from AASCA for getting back to me with the details that I required. Iíve now booked, paid for, been granted leave (from my work boss and home boss) to attend the Mountain Top Estate Tour on Thursday.

    Cheers

    Alex

Not quite true or fair Dennis.
    *
In this case I contacted the president direct and pointed this thread out so that AlexTom could get a response from the source.

Since then I understand that numerious phone calls and emails have gone to lots of different parties and everyone is happy again.

AASCA does a great job with the resources they have. *With a monster cashflow maybe they could have a team of full-time staff to answer questions and read forums but that isnt going to happen anytime soon.

As with all Orgs... if you dont like the way it runs then you can buy a membership, put your hand-up for a position of power and make changes. *Snipping from the outer only ruffles feathers.

About time someone stepped in here. Well said Andy. AASCA do a fantastic job and we should all be supporting them.
