I thought it was pretty good tonight.
I just had a look at the extended stuff on ABC and it looked very much like what I saw on TV (admittedly I only caught it from the 1850s french vaccuum piece), was the extra stuff before that? Maybe Im not looking at the right link on the collectors site?
Either way I reckon it is worth looking at simply to affirm the fact that there are other nutters out there just like us.

Hate those flashing Tampers.... So So not good *:-X *But the people running the show were impressed *:o

Ahh but that is part of the point of collecting the things you love - there is the good the bad and the stuff that non lovers of said collection think is cool :)

Oh indeed! Imagine pointing them out of all things? Hideous. I felt ashamed. I was just amazed the 50s expert didnt manage to mention James Bond at all... seems to be his main area of expertise.

But the collection was quite good- give him a break.

    Thanks for the sainity check!

We had recorded the live show and I went back over it 3 times, I said to Paula "the groups caps are not from any Boema I know" and I noticed the shape of the group was square at the base (along with the missing handles on the boiler guage and the missing dome nuts on the groups).

I think it was a good collection, all things were fun, interesting, being used and were in price ranges that are reasonable for non museum collections.

Good on him for showing some of his gear I say!

    Re: Collectors ABC

A good show, and good on him. And good on the ABC. The format of the show suits special interest stuff like this where, the segments are short enough so they dont get the opportunity to go on and on, and viewers shouldnt get bored (although I was getting uncomfortable with the preceding story about weaving plastic shopping bags...)

It is very possible the groups on the Bo-Ema have been changed for the reason we discussed a couple weeks ago Andy.

Before going down that path however (which I feel is drastic but maybe necessary if you actually want to use the machine & cant find parts) it will be worth making some informed enquiries to see if the parts can be sourced through places other than Bo_Ema themselves, who havent had any for years....

I believe you have someone in Melbourne (?) you can ask, and if I get serious about getting mine fully operational again I can speak with several parts suppliers in Italy. Lets say whoever of us sources them first, buys extras for the other *:)

Interesting to note his comment that the brew from it.....isnt that good (not a quote) . Finally, someone who speaks the truth. But you dont acquire them for the coffee.....

Nice collection apart from a couple of really tacky tampers ::) I reckon there is quite a few others here that would give that collection a shake for numbers and diversity too ;D

I think the tacky tampers rock. Collecting at that level (and mine) is about fun not worth. The items that caught the panels eyes were the silly "dollar worthless" items not the rare end exotic specials that only appeal to other coffee collectors. I have quite a few "coffee in a can" cans, I used to just take a photo and toss them but now Im keeping them for display at the Snobbery. Just fun/funny/silly no other real value. (PS: feel free to donate a coffee can if you buy one) ;)

On display in a cafe and available to fondle, play, use? I think the accessability of his collection is the reason it made it to telly, the stuff was made to be used not hidden in a collection.

Attilio at Cosmorex has some cool coffee items in his show room, you can pick them up, have a look feel and might even get a story about their heritage. All good fun.

I think Im good for parts. I have found where most of the original spare rubbers etc ended-up so when you are looking for specific bits give me a hollar.

If a collector modifies an item to produce better coffee is that sacrilegious?

I know the old car collectors are at pains to keep items original but I think that if modern technology can allow you produce a better end result then thats ok too.

Yup - I always wanted to strip out the Nissan out of my Datsun 180B and refit with a cool engine and wood paneling and velour seats. Thank goodness I never succeeded in my ambition.

Yep if I find space in my shop to do coffee the collection needs to come in too ;) Only about 25 manual coffee brewers of various sorts so far. Must buy more :D

    Re: Collectors ABC

Ive known Richard for 3 years now and hes certainly passionate about coffee. His shop is probably no bigger than about 25m2 and on a bad week, he probably does 130kg in wet sales. His shop, "Grind" is a landmark, and whether a coffee consumer or not, I doubt if anyone in the Cronulla district was not familiar with the shop whose walls are plastered with photos of customers on their overseas travels waving the "Id rather be at Grind" slogan. And so, Grind has become a benchmark for coffee lovers in the Shire.

Most people would be ecstatic with that kind of turnover and reputation. Richard wanted to do more. Not in wet sales, but to introduce the coffee drinking public to various methods and coffee drinking experiences. So on one or two evenings a week, a few backgammon boards are setup, and a single origin will be offered as a pour over or simply through an aeropress.

Most of what we saw on telly was in his home, though the shelves around the shop are filled with coffee making gear as well.

I guess Richards penchant for anything to do with coffee making, be it broken or not, is as much or more to do with the story behind it rather than just the item itself.

He has a connection to his collection.

As a matter of curiosity, what could cause you to need to replace the group?

Looks like the Host Andy Muirhead had the wrong kind of collection.
The host of the show just got charged for child porn and has taken an extended holiday. So hopefully they will open the web page so i can down load the show. :(

Bad as it may turn out to be the ABC has purged itself totally of anything to do with him before any court case and judgement.
