Sumatran Manheling is one of our favourites, so we would be very interested to see it in an upcoming poll.

Re: Sumatran Mandheling & Grace estate

The last mandheling was great! Ive got a bit left, but it is absolutely awesome and I would certainly be after some more of similar or better quality. Is it asking too much for a Kuda Mas?

Chris, Ive got a bunch of Toraja if youd like some of that to tide you over.

Rich, Ive left my 2.5kg of Peru Kontiki untouched since I ordered it a few months ago; if youd like that Ill sell/trade it to you.

    Cheers,

    Luca

    You and me both!

Yeah, the toraja and the mandheling are quite different.

Were lucky that we can trust Andy to pick good Mandheling!

    Hmmm,

I found that with the Indo Bukit Marrante Kalosi Toraja ;D(I love that mouthful of a name), that it seemed to be best when taken to the edge of rolling 2nd Crack...... seems to take the "edge" off as you put it Chris but leaves it with plenty of character, fruitiness and lots of body. With my slightly modified Popper, this occurs between 12-14 minutes, depending on ambient temperature, etc......

I have 3 different Mandheling SOs at the moment, and Andys is the best of the lot. With only a few kilos left, Ill be looking for some more Mandheling over the next 1-2 months.

I must admit even with my humble heat gun the Mandheling roasts up a treat. Dooes not seem to be so fussy about yeilding a nice roast. The result has always pleased.

Try the Mandheling about 2 hours after you roast it very very very yummy.

Its actually funny the Mandheling is UGLY and one of the cheapest beans and tastes wonderful. The Jamacian Blue Mountain is one of the most expencive and to me tastes bloody Awful. [smiley=shocked.gif]

Yep, the Mandheling was in the Beginners pack I just purchased and is a very nice SO. Much more flavorsome than the PNG A Grade although I think it needs to degas a little more than 2 days... perhaps 5 days. They do look ugly but they roast up nicely and even and after 1 day they have a nice butterscotch aroma on the nose - Yum!, unlike the Brazil which I found roasts a little uneven in colour. Still learning though...... but its good fun.

I dont think we ended up having a Sumatran over the last few months which is a bugger as it is my favourite base for blends and Im out.

I roasted up my batch of this from my sample pack last night. After reading the above reviews I am looking forward to giving it a run to see what it tastes like. If I like it as much as what you all do I will be disappointed because I roasted up the whole lot and I will have to wait to get some.

The Mandheling is probably one of the most distinctive SOs Ive bought. A delightful winey taste. Good on its own if thats the way you like it, or in a blend. Love it (but not as much as the not-so-distinctive Colombian).

Yep, weve got the Kuda Mas, too. The grade 1 mandheling that andy got the time before the last grade 1 mandheling was on par, if not better, though!
