    Melbourne CS Get Together

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
Why are CoffeeSnobs in Brisbane and Sydney having more fun than the rest or am I missing out on regular catchups with fellow CSers in Melbourne?

If nobody in Melbourne have been organising say monthly or bimonthly meet ups, whos up for one?

Do a bit of roasting, cupping and for the fun of it, a latte art smackdown!

    Re: Melbourne CS Get Together

Good point Faddy. Melbourne get togethers tend to be at bean pickups where everyone chats for 4 hours on a Saturday morning once a month.

For something different, the next Melbourne pickup will be at:

    Keffa Han
    816 Lorimer St,
    Port Melbourne, VIC 3207

I hope to have the next BeanBay-green sale ready to roll in the next week(ish) (pending on a customs clearance) so I expect election day would be good timing for a Melbourne pickup.

So... how about Saturday morning 21st August for a get together?

Claude has a great area out the front that we could get a couple of home roasters going and there is plenty of free car parking on a weekend around there.

    Sounds like fun.

We all probably have to go out that day and vote anyway, might as well combine it with something useful!

Sad but true, voting does seem like a hiding to nothing sometimes.

Keffa Han is under the Bolte Bridge, on the corner of Lorimer and Graham Streets. Pretty easy to find.

Im so there! Claude makes a great coffee while not being completely overrun on a Saturday (its on the cards though...!)

Am really keen to discuss roasting too with some fellow fanatics as Im about to embark on this soon...

A great way to get the taste of federal voting out of the mouth too... ;)

Interesting that you mention Claude... I guess I better tell him about this
    ;D

Im sure he will be fine with it, I mentioned it as a maybe a couple of weeks ago and he liked the idea of a pile of us roasting out the front.

...and I like the idea of people crossing the Bolte Bridge wondering what the smell is.

Funny this topic has come up, Claude was talking to me about this exact thing a few weeks ago - its a great space to have a pickup day, similar to the pickup that we had at Talk Coffee a few months back

Im sure Claude will welcome us all with open arms

Im certainly going to make it there after voting, even if im not getting any greens ill be getting some of the dutch choc (Claude made me one today, that cocoa make an awesome hot choc Andy)

Yeah, it is certainly hot chocolate time of year and I know of no better cocoas than the two we have.

It looks like the polling booths are open from 8am - 6pm http://www.aec.gov.au/voting/polling.htm
...so if I go and do my bit in the morning I should be able to get to Keffa Han at 10am.

With the amount of space out front Andy could probably bring his roaster along too (and im not talking about Behmors here either...)

That would certainly get the attention of the poor sods stuck on the freeway

We can all have a crack at it. Thats the fun of getting together with other CSrs, everyone is motivated by good coffee results.

Ill bring scales, beans, power cords etc.

With any luck the weather is fine but regardless well have a good time anyway.

Theres no way my roaster/cooler will fit into my 2-door lancer, so bringing them along will have to wait until we upgrade the car :)

Bloody great fun today, so glad I came along. Excellent opportunity to ask all my dumb newbie roasting questions, have a play, and chat with fellow snobbers. Am now likely to spend the rest of the weekend roasting!

Great venue too, lots of room to play and great coffee from Claude.

See yall at the next one!

I really enjoyed the get together and after talking to Andy and some of the others there, Ill be concentrating more on enjoying the roasting rather than obsessing about the numbers.

Came home with some Behomor roast beans to compare to my Baby Roaster ones as well.

    Cheers Andy for organising this.

good day all round - thanks to andy and the others for demonstrating the Behmor - and for demonstrating how to burn the crap out of a roast! Was that CS colour grade 98 or 99? :P

Claude makes a great coffee, never seen a naked in action so was mesmerised by trhe liqiud gold coming out of the Ruggero.

Will have to get down to the beanery Andy and have that discussion about custom roasts.

    Cheers

Id also add my thanks to Andy and Claude.
Had a great flat white and the little girl enjoyed her hot chocolate.
Always good to meet up with like minded obsessives who dont mind continuous talk on topics of weight loss % during roasts, when to first taste the roast and how the hell do you pronounce Huehuetenango!!

Cheers to all who were there, sorry I didnt really get to chat much, but I always appreciate the effort by Andy and others to promote the home roasting juggernaut!

    It was a great morning.

I agree with everyone that the venue and Claudes coffee are great and as always its good fun to catch-up with a pile of CSrs for a chat, even better when we can roast some beans while doing it.

I was too busy talking, roasting and handing out beans to talk pictures but I did see a couple of cameras around. Maybe someone can post some pics for the others?

Thanks again for a good social morning, I look forward to the next get together.

Yes, what a great venue for a meetup! Always amazing to see that a cafe like Claudes so out of the way, is actually doing well and is a popular local spot. Also nice to see someone else using a Ruggero and I enjoyed watching him make coffee in the Ibrik over the little camp stove.

Ive got some photos, Ill post them up later. ;)

Got to talk coffee for hours without boring anybody (presumably) and I was able to destroy a couple of batches of Limmu in Andys Behmor.
