    Flow rate ?

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
Now we have seen lots of chatter as to Tamping / Grind Size / Dosing but what about flow rate...

Was seeing some interesting shots when playing with a Knicked :D group (opps too many scotches). And it only got worse when we went and run teh same beans / grind / tamp / dose on two other machines. I was watching a Gusher Vs a nice juicy flow ????

It was only when I was trying to clean and do some flushing, post group head pressure testing. That the flow rate appeared to be significantly different.

So regardless of the RATED pump specs, I would be very interested to know what flow rates ( How many ml in 15 sec) you get with an empty basket ?

I am sure that there must be a spec some where but for teh love of another scotch, I can not rind it :o

    Thanks...

The flow vs pressure specs for the Ulka pumps are discussed & linked to in http://coffeesnobs.com.au/YaBB.pl?num=1143118905/108
For the common one, 650ml/min at 0bar

    “WATER DEBIT.”

Now it’s time to check the “WATER DEBIT.” Basically you’re looking for the pump to push 60 –100ml of water out of the group in 10 seconds. If you get less than this something is seriously wrong, a bit more is not a problem. Turn on the brew switch and simply run water through the group via the empty portafilter for 10 seconds and measure how much you get. Assuming that all has gone well, your espresso machine is now fully functional, but you might want to empty the drip tray.
Thanks Mal, had read it previously but could not find it... Key word was not what first came to mind.

“ WATER DEBIT ” = Expected Flow Rate
