Break from Silvia is no holiday

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
This is a ho-hum post about everyday relationships and how absence makes the heart grow fonder but I wanted to share it anyway. I just came back from a few days down the south coast of NSW with my family. I could not take Silvia of course and had to take plunger. This was the first time my mistress and I have been apart since we found each other. What an appalling experience. I used to be happy with plunger over a 4 decade relationship. But once you taste real love, you are spoilt forever. Plunger was so thin, watery, and mean in her offerings; it was all faux-coffee pretence and no substance. You can imagine the steamy re-union when Silvia and I got together when I got back. An absolute orgy of self indulgence. I cant say much more because too many kids read this site, but god how I love my Silvia!

Hi Richard, you write with such passion ;) - many of us can relate to the separation anxiety you feel when you are parted from Sylvia.

I recently returned from a trip away from my Faema... I stayed in Sydney with a Gaggia classic, which performed bravely despite its tiny steam arm (after I secretly loaded their grinder with my fresh beans). Then I travelled to Hobart and stayed with a La Cimbali Junior, sneaking my own beans again into the grinder. The coffee was brilliant and the barista skills far superior to my own paltry efforts, but I was so glad to return home again after a week to my Faema.

Anyone would think I had a social disorder, imagining that I live in a world populated with coffee machines - where humans are appliances who only exist to serve them. ;D

    ;D ;D ;D ;D I love it!!!
A couple of years ago I had a shoulder reconstruction and tendon reconnection leaving my left side out of action for quite a while, but CS ingenuity had me pulling shots on my Silvia after only two days of convalescing, it was a tricky task but the need for quality caffeination overruled pain and inconvenience in true Coffeesnob fashion ;) ;)

    I know the feeling!

After pretending that the stovetop on a trip was OK, I bit the bullet and got a roof rack and wire tray for the car.
That means we can take the Bezzera, Macap and the luggage on our trips these days. :)

Spent a overnight stay in a coastal country town, and after drinking the complimentary coffee sachets, i lamented not bringing my Sunbeam EM6910 and grinder along :-[
Think i nearly died. Could not think straight. I was so glad to be home. Talk about real coffee dependence.

Having pondered the responses from other lonely hearts, Im truly wondering whether its a matter of physiological/chemical dependency or a psychological/emotional separation anxiety. While I was away from Silvia, I didnt sense any physical cravings or withdrawal signs, but rather a strong feeling of incompleteness; something that I take for granted as hugely satisfying is missing from my life. This feeling is magnified by any substitution efforts, like trying to find satisfaction in plunger or a rural towns best barista effort. Im sure that science has an answer, but I think its love.....
