I took a chance and ordered a kg of what seems to be Rios top blend. I presume other snobs have tried it; any tasting notes youd like to share? or do you think I should fly in blind? cheers

Suck and see Richard. Ive tried a couple of bags of Rio and havent been disappointed. It was a while ago so I cant provide any tasting notes other than it was good quality.

As you have already committed yourself, Im not sure why you need to ask.

Thanks flynn_aus; your forensic logic has dragged my fear of the unknown into the public domain and shaken my snob status to the core; I must be brave...I must be brave...

Your mantra should be "Im looking forward to it...Im looking forward to it..."

    You wont be disappointed.

or do you think I should fly in blind?
    Yes is the short answer.

Speaking only for myself, coffee, like many other fine things in life is subjective to ones own taste.

I wouldnt be influenced by others tasting notes, you decide if its a winner.

Ive bought their blends from Jetblack Expresso at Cremorne, but not Blend 64 which seems to be only available online. Of the ones Ive tried (Royale; Crema; & Expresso) I only go back to Royale. Their website lists their retail outlets.

Yes, Jetblack is where I got my beans from. I occasionally stop in for a coffee which is always good.

the rio coffee website is probably the best way to buy your beans if you are outside SA as it comes directly from the roaster and is (likely to be) fresher than buying it from a store. (theres even a promotion running to get 250g free at the moment!!)

Great service too; the beans arrived within 3 days and the Blend 64 comes in these great retro metallic re-usable canisters. Will try them in the next couple of days after my current bag is finished and report my observations.

This blend is excellent. I like a strong coffee, and Ive learnt that strength doesnt necessarily increase with a larger dose. Im lacking adjectives here to describe the taste. Rio says "round & full on the palette". I struggle with forming a language to describe coffee taste. When someone tastes wine and uses words like peppery, fruity, cherry etc I can search for these essences and usually find them. With coffee, especially good fresh coffee, I mostly taste chocolate or burnt caramel taste. Rio 64 is has a more dark chocolate aftertaste; very satisfying.

I wonder how others communicate what their palette is sensing?

    Rio a roaster in Adelaide.

I know a courier who used to pick up from them He gave the impression that they roast in the order of tones per week.
