Just love some of the comments down the bottom supporting the cafes - nice to see the support.

What is the world coming to? :P

Wow, we have had similar discussions here on CS but nothing quite so nasty.

"I hate annoying little children being in cafes anyway. Not to mention if I had a kid that wanted a babychino Id back hand them for being prissy and pathetic" - John

...I gotta say, nice parenting skills there John!

and this one trolled to perfection...

like all accessories, children come at a cost. maybe it was time that mothers realised that its their responsibility and cost to raise their children. - Bella

There were some fair points in other posts but a lot of heated, nasty stuff with it.

Im all for supporting cafes, but sometimes the cost of a babycino is ridiculously expensive. On the other hand mothers in groups with massive prams sometimes sit for hours without ordering much else - which is a bit rough on the cafe owner.

Hazel from Coffee Alchemy used to do them for FREE with coffee orders - although her cafe isnt your typical Westfield type of establishment.

Plus the babycinos in most cafes are mostly macrofoam with massive bubbles. My kids prefer it when I make silky microfoam at home with some quality coffeesnobs cote divoire red african cocoa* ;D

We offered to do 1 free with a coffee until people complained when I wouldnt do 1 for every kid in the group when it was 4 kids and 1 mum. We now charge $1 for a baby cino or $2.20 for a mini warm choc. Both come with marshmallow and choice of smiley, sad, angry or crazy face. 1 is just bigger & has more milk than the other.

I was filled with incandescent rage when I read that article, purely because of the sense of entitlement that came across in it. It should not matter if the proprietor charges 0, 1 or 100 for the product. If you dont like it, go off and buy your own machine and make them at home for 1/1000th the cost per baby chino.

(I feel I should add: Im an IT guy by trade and my only interaction with coffee shops is as a customer, Ive happily taken advantage of a free baby chino that has been offered when we order, but we were regulars (till we moved the other side of town), and did not expect the thing).

    Spot on.

Thankfully nothing will come of the campaign, but Im staggered that the supporters of it have such an undeserved sense of entitlement.

Ive got nothing against the drink (and cant see a genuine reason why anyone would), but the presented argument is just ludicrous imo.

Some people are born to complain about such tiny things in the grand scheme of life. It saddens me that they have little else to focus their attention on. Ignorance is bliss as the saying goes.

    Re: Baby Bleckochinos...

I always used to seek out cafes that offered reasonably priced babycinos when my kids were little. I didnt expect them to be free, but it was nice when they were. Going out for a coffee can be a real sanity saver for mums who are otherwise stuck looking at the walls at home with small children!

So Ive trained my kids to go to cafes and restaurants and behave appropriately since they were very small and always left if they started to play up so they learned very quickly. A babycino was only forthcoming if they behaved in a manner that would allow the adults around them to enjoy their coffees. Screaming, misbehaving kids in cafes is not acceptable.

I especially liked the way they claimed the charity donation for themselves, even though it would be the cafe that was donating.

Theres nothing like a good lie to make one feel virtuous. :P
