Is there a recommendation of type?

Save yourself some money and learn to drink coffee without any sugar, TG! :D

No, seriously, if you must use sugar and most of the coffee drinkers I know do, I consider raw sugar better over white. Though, at one stage I was giving friends Demarra sugar to put in their coffee, as it was all I had at the time and as I got a favourable response to it, I kept using it for coffees. It has a nice caramel type flavour that actually does complement coffee well.

At the shop, we currently use just the white sugar sticks and Equal as well. Though next order, I am going to be getting the raw sugar sticks as well.

I use it as a bit of a benchmark when out doing the cafe scene. If there is white and raw sugar on offer, I think its a good thing as the cafe has had a bit of a think about how they want their coffee treated. Though I have had good coffee at places that do only offer up white sugar. I guess they figure that if you need to sully their coffee with sugar you can just do it with that!

And I have to laugh at those people who come in to our shop and order a large skim milk cap and then say, can I add three sugars? :o Weve now changed that policy anyway. The customer can now add their own to their takeaway! Saves me the stress of watching a great cup get ruined by so much sweetness! ;)

It took me 6-8 months to kick the habit ;D
Even when I left the noxious blend43 to fall in love with espresso-
Now it just tastes disgusting to add sugar and taste the syruppy gloopy vomitous stuff ruiniing the delicate acidity and mouth feel. :-?
Yes- I admit I have sampled it recently by way of remembering the past and could not finihs the shot.
Even lattes and capas bring out the subtle hints hidden in the milk!
    Ban the stuff I reckon.

And syrups too. Well, I just dont understand those who like to add them to their drinks but so many people love them and weve sold a couple of litres worth since I introduced them to the shop. Anyway, Ive just bought some different flavours to keep those people coming back but I certainly dont really like how sweet they are and dont have them in my own coffee!

I think the reason people drink coffee with syrups is they are used to drinking bad coffee elsewhere so need something to kill the taste but still have the benefit of having something to drink and be social. Just a shame when they than do the same to a good coffee made by Scoota Girl

Ive actually gone cold turkey since getting the new machine.
    I was asking for others.
My wife thinks raw isnt as sweet as white and takes longer to dissolve.

As for the Equal do please look for the single serve sticks. The sachets equal two teaspoons of sugar and its annoying of you only take one.
To me it shows the establishment knows what its doing because most dont notice.

    Re: Sugar

I used to use sugar, syrups, and chocolates but since I started home roasting I never use them anymore. I still have some sitting around from before I learned, but havent bought any in years. The syrups and chocolates are slowly getting used up in hot cocoas and for friends whove yet to learn. Maybe in another 3 years or so theyll be gone. ;D

Okay, you lot had better sit down when you read this. Cause I think I may have had my mind changed by the sryup thing. :o

Ive bought some of Cosmorexs syrups that they have and theyre great in that theres no artificials in them. Today we had a play at work with the coconut and walnut one (called Kahuna) as a frappe! Most excellent flavour with all that cold ice and milk and a double shot of coffee. The boss loved it so much he had another one this arvo when he came back in. (Its a bakery so he goes home during the day.)

The boss lady is in love with the cinnamon and hazelnut, which I made twice for her today as well!

These syrups are not sickly sweet. Unlike the Philibert ones we also have. So, they really do complement the coffee and certainly dont hide any thing of the flavour of the coffee.

I did give a couple of regulars a taste of the Kahuna Frappe too, and they were most impressed. Should be interesting to see how these flavours take off! I am trying to convince the bosses that they should only be used sparingly, not serve them up all the time. Keep the customers wanting more but not knowing when theyre going to get it!

See what we do to keep you coming back? ;D :D ;)

Wow Scoota Gal, a big change indeed. Maybe you will be taken to face the coffeesnobs tribunal to see if your memebership is still valid. I will volunteer to be on your defense team seen as though you have given me advice before. I must admit I occassionaly have a flavoured coffee but generally only if I have a meeting with someone at a chain store and want to kill the taste of their coffee that is made by a 12yo hot chocolate drinker. Syrups do have there place though as you suggest in yoru post.
