Bullitt and Rayzurheds epic road trip in Tasmania

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
    Well it has begun! ;D
Our journey has begun- we have left Burnie and are heading for Hobart- 3 and half hours away. Our mission-
Firstly- find a powerpoint on the way so we can set up Silvia and Rocky and experience our freshly roasted coffee instead of any swill that might be about. 8-)
Secondly - to make it to Island Espresso before they shut! >:(
Third- To participate in the Hobart training day at Baristacrats.
Fourth- To meet the mystery guest who we assume is less than a demigod, but pretty special. ::)

Stay tuned- more info and photos to come...

Re: Bullitt and Rayzurheds epic road trip in Tasm

We are now in Hobart, only took us 4 and half hours ::)
Our first objective took a bit of finding,
no power point at Paramatta Creek, nor at Westbury, but joy at Campbell town, there was tow outlets on the back of the toilet block in the park :D
A number of other travellers were fascinated when we got Rocky and Silvia out and plugged them in and made a couple of quick shots ;) ;),
we have photos to verify and will be able to upload them later.

Anyhow we did enjoy the real coffee, but next time we might pack a small picnic table instead of working on the ground.

Our second objective was looking promising when we managed to find a parking spot right in front of the best coffee shop in Hobart, until I got out of the car to find that it was shut :(
However we could smell the un-mistakeable aroma of coffee beans being roasted, and a short phone call later we were in contact with Dane.
Oh-migosh is that the time, :-?to be continued......

Whats this? A Coffee Road Trip? Cool! :D Cant wait for the pics guys.

Heres a tip. If youre looking for power outlets, try the nearest town showground! ;) There are generally a few about there...

    PROLOGUE
Yeah I know its out of sequence, but brought on by "silly oclock" and caffeine induced inability to sleep ;).

This epic road trip report is unashamedly inspired by Java-whos got a middle name for everything-philes Epic road trip in search of his roaster.

Oh and since we are now in the daylight saving time zone, its really silly oclock plus one hour.

Stay tuned, we have lots more to report.

Bullitt - who doesnt have a middle name.... :P

    Its a bit exciting....

Day is fineing up slowly. Brewtus has relocated to the training room (aka garage). Milk and water flow freely in the training room fridge.

Lunch is prepared, vacuum is humming, camera is charged, heading out to the airport to retrieve the 2mcm in a wee while, and hope he isnt too jet lagged!!

Somewhere, out there, in Hobart, Bullitt (without a middle name) and RH (without any name) are getting ready to reach the mid point of their road trip......lugging silvia and rocky up the steepest street in Hobart *;D *;D *;D

    To be continued....

    Back track yesterday...
Island Espresso was shut, but the smell of roasting beans drove us down the alley to the source and Mikes call to Dane was quickly met with him ushering us in to coffee nivarna... ;D
4 or 5 shots later and over 2 hours- we were inspired, energised and pumped for the remainder of the drive to Kingston for the night. *::)
Its amazing how little sleep you get when youve consumed too much excellent coffee around 7pm.
Lots of photos to be loaded tomorrow- probably. *;)

There are some people who dont make their own coffee on a road trip. We noticed lots of cafes open to cater for these types... odd really.

    What a great time! ;D
After a long and arduous day training and sipping and spitting and gargling and watching dvds of everything coffee, we retired to a marvelous harbourside restaurant for a sumptuous meal. 8-)
Then, before the impact of the caffeine wore off, Bullitt and I headed back to the Northwest- 3 1/2 hours away.
Thanks again Chris for coming down and spending time with us island coffee snobs.

Well, as you can see, it was out totally of control around here! And way too much fun.

Chris showed us a lot of new tricks. *;)

The Hottop showed us that it likes to be paid attention to on its first roast. *:(

Coffee Snobs showed us that there are some excellent folks in yr neighbourhood that LOVE coffee and are fun to play with in person. *8-)

Bullitt and RH showed us that if you hang around a public toilet long enough in Campbelltown, someone will make you an espresso. *;D

And im sure the journey isnt over, as I have to travel up to Burnie next week, and I know where there is a backyard shed that is full of green beans and coffee machines..... * ::)

Congratulations on the Hottop Polly :)

Will be very interested to know how the roasts go compared to the old BM HG settup.

Very interested ::) (I was considering one of these before I stumbled across the old BM)

Thanks to the Tassie CSers for a terrific day...

We shared much more than just learning yesterday....We now know how Bullit and Razur got their names and what serious caffeine addiction really is.....It is the readiness to loiter around dunny blocks in the search or power points...or so they said.... ;) ::) ;D.

I hope everyone has taken a step in the right direction coffeewise...

Thanks so much to Baristacrat for the venue, the sensational food and most importantly, for the hospitality...I had a ball!

Now.... to shuck those Tassie oysters and de-cork the bubbly ;)

Thanks also to Chris for coming down to teach us how to be more enlightened ;)
Additional Thanks also to Baristacrat for hosting the day. Despite my severe lack of sleep the night before I did enjoy the event.

Er, um, you guys are so course, it was a Travellers Rest Stop not a dunny & we were inspired by the bright neon sign in the Subway shop window, boldly proclaiming that We make our own bread, yeah well, we made our own espresso so there 8-)

I guess next time we will be following Scoota gals suggestion to [s]loiter around [/s] investigate the showgrownds in search of power points ;) ;)

AND I cant leave without the obligatory side story about the car, fondly called The Racer.

Apparently the wipers have not been very keen to work on anything but the fastest speed in the past. On the way down to Hobart we drove through a brief rain shower and RH was showing me how the wipers only worked on the 3rd setting = fast, then he showed me how they didnt work on the 2d setting, but they did work, then he showed me how they didnt work on the first setting, and nothing, however I suggested that he wait a moment, and then they worked, then not, then worked again.....
It was an intermittent setting and for some reason the default is to pause first, which can give the impression that they dont work ;)
