    Upper Central America Please

    Could we get some upper Central American (Guatemalan, Honduran, Mexican, etc.)?

    When it comes to Guat, is Huehuetenango always available or is it limited?

    The main harvest in the Huehuetenango region of Guatemala is getting underway as we speak.

    The Huehuetenango region produces relatively small amounts of beans while at the same time they are becoming more and more sought after.

    My advice would be that if you find a bean from the Huehuetenango region that you like buy enough to last you a year while they are still available to you. Odds are they wont be on the shelves long.

    If you like the beans from Huehuetenango you might try some Mexican Chiapas. These beans come from the Mexican side of the border accross from Huehuetenango and share many of the same traits.

    A word of caution here though. I dont know whats available over there in Oz but one of the importers I deal with here has advised me to hold off on purchasing anymore coffees from the Huehuetenango region until the harvest thats currently underway arrives. According to him the coffees that are currently available are 2nd rate with all the best ones having been sold off long ago.

    I roasted up some Tres Oros from Mexico last night for the first time and upon waking and smelling them today my mouth immediately started watering in anticipation of tasting them. After only 12 hours of resting they smelled absolutely heavenly! Roasted at the same time and sitting next to them are some Nicaraguan San Gabriel and some PNG Kimel X, both of which were still smelling primarily of roasting and had obviously not finished outgassing and reached their full aroma flavor yet.

    This should prove to be a wonderful day sittin n sippin. :)

    Ill see if I cant throw together some tasting notes on the Tres Oros and the San Gabriel and post them in the cupping section.
