OK - someone told me you cant get crema using a Presso.

    I say bullpucky! :P :P :P :P :P

My shot from this morning was this and was immediately followed by a second similar shot.

Same as any other filter basket ... its just held in by a clip. You could always try slipping something like a spoon into the space between the basket and the pf and using that to lever it out. I was suprised by the quality of the pf - how nice is it?!

I havent really been able to get much of a thick crema. Could you take a photo in a clear glass so that we can see how much crema there actually is?

Have you found your shots to be on the sour side?

    Cheers,

    Luca

I have had a couple of sour shots but Ive been working on the grind and tamping and getting decent stuff now. Unfortunately my grinder is on its last legs, and being October I am close enough to Christmas to know what I will ask Santa for.

I will pour into a shot glass tomorrow, but the crema later is NOT thick, a couple of mm at best, but given the low-ish pressure I dont have the same kind of expectations Id have from a fully powered and pressured machine.

And here is this mornings effort:

I did one before it with coffee Id ground half an hour before - not anywhere near as good. Just goes to show - gotta be fresh.

Not bad for a shot from something other than a pressurised "normal" machine especially with older grinds....

    But hows the taste test?

That one was good - it was Mt Elgon at medium roast and it came up fairly well out of the Presso - touch sour but not like it was earlier in the week.

Reminds me of what a shot from a superauto looks like.

    Grendel, did you preheat everything?

    Cheers,

    Sour?

I managed a couple of early sour shots until I found that the "standard tricks" of over filling the basket, fine grind, tamping hard and pre-heating everything produced great shots.

It also seems fairly hard to "choke" the Presso and I think the quality while not in the $10,000 espresso machine league it does make a pretty good coffee.

You can also find a lot of flavours in a presso coffee that are more masked in a traditional espresso. Somewhere between espresso and plunger I think.

Next time you guys are cupping a bean give it a try...

Yeah, good description. Thats exactly how I feel about my peppina shots, too.

Once the presso comes back to me, Ill definitely have to give it a few more tries. It was good with some mandheling, but a bit of a letdown with some daterra. Will have to experiment more. The good thing is that the "shower screen" doesnt protrude into the basket, so you can dose up right to the rim!

    Cheers,

    Luca

Yeah -I pre heat. Basically you have to otherwise the aluminium saps all the heat from the shot.
