The good and the not so good in Canberra

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
I was up in Canberra the other day visiting some family and decided to stop for a coffee in one of the big shopping centres in Civic.
Firstly the bad, and it was very bad -
    - Anybody with the words guru and coffee in their name should have a modicum of an idea about coffee, one would think *::).
I asked for a double shot cap. Because I ordered at the counter, they gave me a take away cup, no biggie, I can walk around while I savour the brew. I had a sip after 5 minutes and burnt my tongue. 15 minutes later, it was just cooling down enough to drink, by which time I could make out the ashy undertones *:P. Straight into the bin.
Then the good, and it was very good -
    - Koko Black, also in Civic. It took a while to get a seat as it was packed (good sign). Finally get seated and the waitress comes over and takes our orders. By BTB gets a latte, my brother-in-law gets a hot chocolate affogato, and I settle for a latte and an espresso.
The coffees take a while to come out, which gave us time to savour (only visually unfortunately) their chocolate collection.
Out comes the order, with an offer of a glass of water with the espresso, a nice touch.
The hot chocolate affogato was a good dollop of ice cream with a seperate jug of hot chocolate, which was then poured over the ice cream. I didnt try it, but it looked sensational and the B-I-L raved about it.
The espesso looked good, nice crema, superb aroma and it tasted sensational, not a hint of bitterness.
The latte was almost too good looking to drink. Nice art and it was at the right temperature to drink straight away, unlike the other coffee from earlier in the day.
We tried to drop in there later on in the afternoon, but it was packed, with a queue outside the door.
Koko Black is definitely on the return visit list for me, highly recommended.

    Nope, I do that too!

My husband orders an espresso and a ristretto.
