    730 Grams

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
Through the generosity of a coffee importer and a local roaster (Kamran at Fiori coffee), Ive been given 730 grams of authentic Kopi Luwak - the good arabica stuff, to use as a fundraiser for the Autism Association.

I am now trying to think of ideas to promote and get the best price for this - any ideas are welcome!

    Very nice of Fiori. :)

Is it roasted, ie, is that the actual amount you have to play with, and does it need to be used in the next few weeks?

Hi Grendel - how about promoting it through, or doing something at your local zoo?

Hmmm Dennis I like youre thinking!

It is green (well unroasted at least) - and I have to roast it myself as they have no sample roaster small enough for the job.

You could show them the entire process live and in person then! ;D ;D ;D

Im inclined to have something like the Biggest Morning Tea (maybe at the Zoo as Dennis suggests) with a good barrista or two.

I wouldnt want to fork over that sort of money, even for charity, for a bean that I had no experience with. Id waste a significant portion ($$$ wise) just dialing in.

You may be better off selling it by the cup rather than as brown.

By the cup is certainly on the cards - we are thinking of having an event at a swanky place downtown amidst all the mining company offices (where all the money is!)

I reckon $50 a cup, we get the state barista champion and latte art specialist etc to pour the shots (almost typed shits there. . .)

Hmm...I wonder what it would taste like as CP.

I think youre spot on there Grendel. The idea is that it is an exclusive coffee, prepared and served by exclusive baristi, all at an exclusive price, exclusively for raising funds for charity.

And Grendel - Im all for kopi katting.

Take some of those beans to a fibreglass/resin shop and have the beans imbedded in resin and turned into key rings. Might cost a bit, but ask them to do it as a donation and give them credit for doing so in your blurbs. Either sell them separately or add $10 to the entry fee and advertise the fact that the first 100 buyers will get a kopi key ring with the price of admission.

Javaphile - you cracked me up with your post!

    Good luck with it Grendel.

I saw today that the Govts promised funds for the cause.

    Re: 730 Grams

always nice to see the spend, but 190mil is peanuts. It equates to less than $50mil per year on a national basis. State governments spend far more than that! Not that Im not grateful ;)

    Re: 730 Grams

If you can line up that great barista, see if any of those rich mining companies want to sponsor a coffee cupping event for their staff. If the spiel is right, and you approach enough companies, then youll wind up with some donations and still have the coffee left to sell at the end.

    Re: 730 Grams

Ya Dennis - I went along to the launch and did the sums in my head - $3.8 mil per year (best case scenario) for WA - AND the $190 mil is the cumulative amount over 5 years. . .

Viv - thats a good thought too, I am hoping to make use of the links I am getting with that end of town.

    Re: 730 Grams

I wouldnt use these 730 grams for espresso...youd waste a good portion of it dialing it in.

Make drip, french press or syphon coffees out of it, where the grind size can be more forgiving!

Still waiting to hear from Autism WA on what options theyd like to do - I think Wushoes point on the Syphon is a good one - get more out of it that way.
