Excellent link Th. I will be much more precise in use of the term third wave now. Unlike my loose use in an adjacent thread.

Maybe elements of the third wave in the US (eg single origin vintage) would constitute a fourth wave for Italy?

"if wine was sold the way coffee is usually sold today, youd go to a store and see a row of five to twelve bottles, with labels that say, "FRENCH WINE," "AMERICAN WINE," "ITALIAN WINE," "AUSTRALIAN WINE," etc. No vineyard or winery name, no vintage year, no nothing. Just country of origin, and thats it.

So whats missing? Whats hidden? Well, vineyard that produced it of course, the specific grape, as well as the vintage year, because everybody knows that the same vineyard can produce wine that is significantly different from year-to-year."

Just wondering... So, if Im drinking, say, a Dominican Barahona AAA, or an Ethiopian Yirgacheffe, and lets assume its from Bean Bay, is that the equivalent of saying a "Margaret River Cabernet Sauvignon", or a "Barossa Valley Shiraz", as in it details the region but nothing more specific?

    Sounds like it.

Whereas Peru (Villa Rica) Grace Estate equates to Margaret River Cullens - a coffee grown in the Villa Rica region by Grace Estate (must be an awfully big estate given how many sources you can turn up on google)?
