    WooHoo! Winter is here!!

Yup! Its that time of the year again! Time to wake the slumbering giant!

After enjoying the Summer journey into CP it is once again time to dust off Ye Olde Cimbali and geter ready and fired up for the season.

This year there was quite a bit more stuff to dust off the old boy as the kitchen had been turned into a major construction zone for a bathroom remodeling project that saw the use of a power miter saw chopping up lots of lumber and distributing their chewed up pieces into every nook and cranny.

After spending a good chunk of the day getting all the sawdust out of everything else in the kitchen finally it was time to peel back the layers on the Cimbali and do a thorough cleaning of its interior. Once it was all shiny clean again it was decided that this was as good a time as any to get it set on its new home. So the old favorite game of musical benches was undertaken and eventually the Cimbali was installed on its new bench and the counter was moved to its new home where it can actually be used as a food prep area again. All the other counter space in the kitchen is taken up by machines dedicated to producing that golden elixir we all enjoy so much. :)

Finally everything was in its new home with all the cabling and hoses reconnected and ready to go. After draining the boiler and flushing it with plenty of water to make sure all the old hard water was flushed out of the lines and filters and the whole system filled with soft water (from the newly installed whole house system {Yes, another project freshly completed!}) the switches were flipped and the relays were closed and the Old Boy slowly woke from his slumber and warmed to life.

After allowing him plenty of time to wake up and warm his bones it was time for our reward!! Out came the half kilo of beans Id roasted up a few days ago and whos wonderful aromas Id been drooling over ever since. The first grinding sent such enticing smells wafting around the room I just had to sit and enjoy them for a bit before proceeding to loading up a basket. After a few shots to get everything dialed in there it was! That perfect oozing golden nectar!

Aaaaahhhhh....Time to relax with my cuppa!

    Funny thing I have noticed,
whenever I am using Rocky and Silvia, while I am right there in the midst of it all,
I rarely notice much of the aroma that hangs around.
Unless, or until, have gone outside, and then when I come back in,
there is that beautiful aroma of fresh coffee, even some time after making the coffees....
    go figure :-?

    Hi Bullitt,

Our sense of smell, like all our other senses, is logarithmic. After exposure to a smell for a certain time we become accustom to it and it fades into the background.

When you go outside (away from the smell) your sense of smell resets its base level and when you return you will again smell the coffee aroma!

Just like being in a room lit with red light - after a while it doesnt look as red..... but go into a normally lit space and everything in the room will look bluish (minus red) for a while until your sense of sight resets its colour reference......

    Humans are amazing critters ;) ;D ;D ;D ;D

Guess we could summarise your comments,
Human beings are logarithmically amazing critters...

Yeah, hmmm, not many sun soaked beaches here :-?
theres plenty of places down here in Tassie that can get a bit cold during winter, and the mountain that overlooks Hobart can be cold any time of the year...however we dont get much snow really, but when the cold wind comes up from Antarctica it can sure have a bite to it.
OTOH, we generally dont have much stinking hot weather either.

    Bullitt.

....which is why Lizzi is lobbing across Bass Straight...my North European system craves the cold, and , Javaphile, it is so true: there is nothing like the smell of fresh coffee in the kitchen when you come in from a nose-reddening cold weather walk!
    only 10 weeks now ;D ;D
