    Hi Brett,

thanks for your reply, I have a silvia and a rocky no dose, its a bit different to a breville 800 class with no grinder, im working on getting consistant. i think i just need alot of practice and some good beans,

do you have any suggestions as to what beans would be a good starting point, so i can get a feel for the creama and pulling times? i would like to buy from a sponser.

    Hi Jono,

Im a bit biased, as I work for Veneziano, but I love their Concordia blend through my silvia/rocky combo.

I have briefly played around with some stuff from cosmorex, pioneer and coffee hit, all of which was good, but none of which I used with my Silvia/Rocky.

If Im not mistaken, I dont think that there are any NSW roasters that are sponsors ... Hazel de los Reyes has been doing training for Di Bartoli, so it might be worthwhile checking if she is also supplying them with roasted coffee - if not, you could buy direct from her. She has sent us a few experimental blends in the past, all of which have been great.

I think that only passionate roasters with the fresh-roast philosophy really know or care about the existence of coffeesnobs, so trying your way through all of the sponsors offerings is probably a safe bet. However, when youre just getting started with a machine, its always good to have heaps of coffee around to play with ... which could get expensive if youre getting everything mail order ... you would be best off finding a good local source. Of course, everyone on this site will tell you that theres no cheaper source of fresher roasted beans than roasting them yourself, but I, personally, would recommend against trying to roast until you are confident using your machines. YMMV.

Im hesitant to give any of my opinions about non-sponsors, as there is a CS rule that we dont give non-sponsors unsolicited advertising ... to what classes of products and services this applies, Im not sure ... moderators? In any case, people living in your neck of the woods are probably better placed to comment than I am ;P

    Have heaps of fun,

    Luca

    Hi Jono,

I would recommend that you do try any of the site sponsors if you are looking for fresh roasted coffee. I have personally had coffee from Cosmorex and found it to be well packaged, freshly roasted and tasting great!

As I live in outback NSW (yep its officially the outback here now folks!) I do have to spend a bit more to get fresh stuff but its more than worth it IMO. And before the rest of you jump down me throat and say "Start roasting your own!!" its not about to happen because Im already flat out trying to deal with everything else in my life! So Ill leave the roasting to the experts and enjoy the fruits of their labour! ;) :P

Trying coffee from all manner of sources is the spice of life!

I cant remember ever having a ringing sound. Something loose, maybe? For some reason, Ive got the mental picture of a kettle whistling as it comes to boil :-?

    Cheers,

    Luca

Its more of a high frequency resonance or ringing that lasts for a few seconds and then dies away. Not sure where it comes from but definitely related to the boiler near the upper thermal cutoff. Maybe a small amount of steam squeaking past a valve?

in terms of di bartoli and their beans, they do have 1 or 2 blends in stock that they get from hazel, special blends of the week, or whatever.... so if you are looking for local supply, i would get from them. i used to live 5 mins away, was there weekly, and they are very helpful...

    enjoy the journey

    Behmor Brazen - $249 - Free Freight
    Hello everyone,

I just had to let you know what a great time I had over at Di Bartoli last weekend!

Renzo and Olfra were lovely, great tasting coffee too, I bought some signature blend, and after some free advice Im now making some fantastic tasting coffee on my Silvia.

Anyone who hasnt been in should check it out, be warned though, they have some Beautiful machines. I almost went home with a "little" more than 500gr of beans.

Thanks Renzo, and Olfra great shop all the best, and Ill see you soon to top up my bean container.

    Jono
