    Why are Decaf beans always Columbian?

    Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
    Hello, it seems to me that everywhere I go to buy beans, that the decaf is always Columbian. My wife and mother-inlaw need to have decaf - my mother-inlaw in particular.

    My wife (who tends to get heart palpitations with non-decaf) would love to be able to pick up a decaf mocha or any other variety just to experience a broader range of coffee enjoyment.

    I am not knocking columbian, but there is a wide world of coffee varieties out there. Luckily I can do my wife a mix of about 60% decaf with 40% of whatever I am drinking, but the question I have remains - why are there virtually no varieties of decaf beans available or is it that I am just looking in all the wrong places. *I live in the Newcastle/Lake Macquarie area (Hunter Region) of NSW.

    Any replies would be gratefully appreciated.

    Cheers,
    * * * * * Sir Val

    Some of the site sponsors from the left could help you out I am sure. Such as Cuppacoffee with this decaf Mocha Java

    often the decafe is what is available as green beans to be roasted in Australia. From experience its usually Colombian, some Central Americans and on occasion a few others.

    For e.g. the Australian importer of Swiss Water Decafe puts their offerings on a web page you can see at www.hab.com.au - once you check whats there its up to the roaster to buy and roast whatever origin suits espresso the most.

    The first lot of decaf I was given to try and roast was also Columbian now that you mention it.

    I currently have a decaf blend but dont know whats in the blend.

    Thanks everyone - I now see that whilst Columbian decaf seems to be the most common, it is not the sole choice available. My wife will be pleased ;)
