Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
After some iced coffee recipes. Wife loves the sugar packed pre-made Iced Coffee (Big M etc), wanted to get some recipes to try out at home to get her to stop drinking them. It will help in my quest to upgrade my machine.

    Thanks
    Brad

PS. I did a search on the forum but didnt come up with much, im sure there would be some here somewhere but cant seem to find them.

    Re: Iced Coffee recipe

Just make a shot and put it in the fridge Brad.

Alternatively, you can whip up some Cold Press coffee pretty easily that is great for iced coffee. You can read all about it at the following links...

    Re: Iced Coffee recipe

    Hi Brad,

this is my current brew. Preheat an espresso cup as normal, two teaspoons of castor sugar (or white) in the bottom then make the double shot on top of that stir and then chill in the fridge. 300ml of cold milk and a wafer full cream icecream (or 1 scoop). I normally dont blend but sort of break the icecream up with a spoon so you get the coffee slightly bitter with small lumps of sweet icecream coated in the coffee. This coffee is more SA Farmers Union (coffee like) than Big M (syrup like)for comparison.

Keep feeding her addiction with free sample hits as you perfect the brew and once fully addicted pitch the new toy ;)

    Re: Iced Coffee recipe

    Hey Brad,

I like to make a shot straight onto a few scoops of icecream, then just top up with milk. The icecream melts a bit and you get little frozen bits of coffee in it mmmmmmmmmmm

Good luck in your quest to convice the missus for an upgrade. Im in the same boat! Id like to see another thread with everyones ideas put together so we have a few angles to work from hehehe

In Summer, I like to just brew a coffee as normal, froth and all! and then stick it in the freezer for a couple of hours, the top freezes over and you just crush it up with a spoon, delish, and very refreshing on a hot day, if you like sugar, then add it before you freeze. ;)

Shaved ice bits, then a scoop of vanilla ice-cream, a dollop of cream & 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract, a bit of milk to fill the glass half-way, stir, then a doppio poured over the top ... magic on a hot Qld day. ;)

    Iced coffee recipe?

Gonna be around 40 degrees here today, people coming for lunch, wondered about serving iced coffee.
    Any good recipe suggestions?

Coffee poured over ice, bit of vanilla syrup, some icecream and top with milk. CP coffee is one of the best for iced coffee (aint that right Java) ;)

Cold press coffee, Java is a nutter for it (have a look in the manual coffee section for the amounts he prepares each time). I have had a couple of goes at making it and it suits iced coffee very well.

    Re: Iced coffee recipe?

Hi Jon, Im also in SA and have been drinking plenty of iced coffee of late.

I find iced coffee is the only variation of coffee in which I need some sweetner.

    I keep it very simple:

    1. Pour shot
    2. Stir a teaspoon of coffee in shot
    3. Pour over a tall, ice-filled glass
    4. Top up with milk

To make it a little more sophisticated you can add a scoop of ice cream, a bit of whipped cream on top of that and then sprinkle with chocolate.

That would have to mean shot - as in shot glasss - as in shot of rum or some other liquor!

    Re: Iced coffee recipe?

    We make ours like this...

    1. Half a squirt of vanilla
    2. Scoop of icecream
    3. Shot of fresh espresso
    4. Milk
    5. Top with fresh whipped cream (we have a creamer - the type that uses the little nitrogen cartridges)
    6. Dust with drinking choc powder.

Its served in a tall milkshake glass. Pretty NSW traditional iced coffee Id say.

    Re: Iced coffee recipe?

Ive been having a few iced coffees lately too. Like CJunky i make a very simple iced coffee:

Pour shot, add half tsp of sugar or honey (i prefer honey), mix, add two or three ice cubes and then milk. Thats it.

I love the real-coffee ness taste of this simple version.

    Re: Iced coffee recipe?

Nothing is more smooth and thirst quenching then a cold brew as the base for your iced coffee.

    - Youll want a coffee:filtered water ratio of 1:6
    - Youll want the fresh coffee grounded quite coarse
    - COMBINE THE WATER AND COFFEE IN A CONTAINER WITH SOME JAPANESE ANIMATION sound effects! GATTAI!
    - Sit back, let it chill over night.
    - The next day, using a fine strainer, strain the brew into another container and ta-dah! Cold brew coffee.
    - Using two cap fulls per glass of milk
    - Add icecream and chocolate powder on top (optional)

    and last but not least..

    - Expect that customer to come back the next day, so make another batch for at least 30+ customers.

    Re: Iced coffee recipe?

Thanks everyone for sharing these recipes, so many ways of making the most out of our beans *:) During summer I drink a type of caffè freddo or iced espresso and cant go back to anything else as Im not really a milk person. A simple recipe I picked up overseas thats sipped slowly and enjoyed, not gulped down. *;D

Basically pour a double shot into a s/steel shaker that has 3 decent sized ice cubes and a tsp of sugar. Shake it till the ice melts then pour into a glass and throw an extra ice cube in the glass.
Its a type of cold espresso. The melted ice cools it and gives it a bit more volume, refreshing and full of flavour. Just had one after work today using Aceh Gajah Mountain beans *8-)

    Re: Iced coffee recipe?

I do things a little bit different.

First off I use drip coffee from either a chemex or swiss gold dripper (or CP if I have made a batch), pour the coffee into a cocktail shaker add a drop of vanilla essence and a dash of cream and shake until cold - pour into a glass and top with cold milk.

    Re: Iced coffee recipe?

At my cafe we use a blender

Cover the blades with ice (cubes preferred)

    Cover the ice with milk

    Add three shots of espresso

    Blend until smooth

And pour into a milkshake cup - add a straw

For sweetness we add a squirt of homemade chocolate syrup (optional)

And theyre *&%$# good - sold 30 on Sunday!

Do you feel that using fresh espresso shots gives a bit more unf then a cold brewed coffee method? If so, is that a good unf in comparison?

Any of the recipes above, or mine:

    Two doppio ristrettos
    70 ml milk
8 small ice cubes (about 115 grams)
(15 ml cream and 5 ml each of vanilla and Irish Mist--or--25 ml Irish Cream Dream ice cream)
    sugar to taste
    Blend until slushy.

    Drink until throat hurts. :o

Just tried this one as i only have coffee / milk / sugar and ice at my disposal and its quite nice, a little bitter for my taste but definitely still nice, this is only a minor draw-back and possibly from over-extraction im thinking?

    I do this too.
I dont like my iced coffee too sweet and this way it cuts through the cold milk and the little bit of sugar I add.
I dont take sugar in my hot coffee.

    double shot over extracted
    I do this too.
I dont like my iced coffee too sweet and this way it cuts through the cold milk and the little bit of sugar I add.
I dont take sugar in my hot coffee.
    Ditto for me... 8-)

Love iced coffee prepared this way and then whacked into the freezer until at least 10% of it has iced up. Bewdyful on a 40+C day....

    Behmor Brazen - $249 - Free Freight
My recipe (for what its worth)

Whenever Im making a single espresso, I save 1/2 of the (always) double shot into a container in the fridge.

When an "iced" is called for, a scoop of vanilla (lite) ice cream into the glass, pour over an approximation of a shot and fill up with cold milk.

My better half (who does put sugar into her lattes) does not need sugar in this.

This is sounding like a frappe. Try your favourite iced coffee recipe in a blender, add crushed ice and give it a whirl.... freeze your ??? off
