    Yemen Bani Ismail

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
It seems like theres certain times of the year that certain varieties are offered which is not surprising because of the seasons for harvest; the yemens were offered in earlier this year in March. Will it be about the same time next year that the yemenis will appear?

Seasons of harvest are fairly fixed.

Milling, storage, sale at origin, international shipping, customs, AQIS and broker distribution all add the "X" factor that is anyones guess!

I have cupped some great Ismaili samples but the container hasnt arrived yet. Might be Jan, Feb or even March before we get em. There are some past crop one around but I would rather wait.

I had a laugh - good luck with that.

I did buy some last year. And maybe I am roasting it incorrectly, but I am just not a big fan. For espresso, I have had much better beans at less than half the price. I get so much more from some of the Indonesians or Ethiopians.

I am glad I have tried them, but without offending anyone - I think they are overhyped :)

    Mmmmm,

Yemern, some nice little fairy sent me a sampler of beans from their last roast :D I actually think they might be a secret bean pusher for Andy ;) Strange tiny little beans as they are very very tasty in a Syphon.

Hurry up next months Beanbay and I hope for at least 5kg to add to the stash. ::)

Ok so I am definately up for a batch of these next month :)

Tried a careful measured Syphon this morning and a double Latte as well. What a flavour explosion of Spices (to many to pick from). Cuts milk really easilly in a latte. Not sure if it suits my pallette for morning Syphon brews but certainly worth getting for espresso/milk type drinks or if you like zingy daytime Syphon brew. Bit light on Crema but the shot time was down a little too so a little finer grind for these tough knarly beans needed I think [smiley=evil.gif]

    Tim,

My apologies, I meant to say you may have to go a finer grind on these.

I am glad they arrived safe [smiley=thumbsup.gif] ....I was a little worried with the heat and them being in that horrible satchel.

I could almost hear them screaming to me..."Noooooooo!!!" ;D

With the publicity this bean is getting, it looks like there will be a mad rush for this bean when it shows up. The first-timers might get a shock during check-out to see the price being asked for it as compared to what is typically asked for other beans.
I have to say that the Sidamo Guji comes pretty close to the Yemen when roasted right.

Buy some Green anyway they will keep for a couple of years and each time we tell you how good it is will be even less time before you start roasting your own :D

If you own a heat gun already grab a Stainless Steel bowl and a woden spoon and have a go it can be that easy if not go and spend a few $$ and buy a variable temp gun when you have finished roasting your first 2kg you will be about even for $$ 8-)

Yeah we might (we have in hte past too). Not sure of how much it wil cost though (expensive beans, 20% loss in roasting, need to roast more than what was sold etc etc) I have seen them for sale at over $60 a kilo but I expect we can come a fair way under that.

Ill have a think about it.

After much thought (and the fact its another 60 kilo I dont have to pack today) we will offer these roasted too (tis in BeanBay brown now). But prepared to be shocked... $50/kg and 1 kilo minimum.

The price and minimum order size is due to the high cost of the raw product and the batch roast sizes, even then I think Im be drinking plenty of Yemen myself to make up the batch/order difference. (Life is tough as a CoffeeSnob eh!)

So you might want to find someone to share a kilo with (or maybe just not share!)

woo hoo! Thanks Andy, youre THE MAN :) :)

I seem to remember that the last time this was in Beanbay as roasted it was around $25-30 for 500g, so the stipulation for a kilo and current price isnt bad at all, especially when I consider what Ive had to do to the prices of the products I deal with in light of the performance of the Australian dollar.

All i have to do now is be patient, and even more patient once my order arrives!

Ill be pretty shocked if you cannot get through a kilo... it pulls great syrup-like shots for a few weeks at least maybe more but we dont keep it that long.

as per the front page of BeanBay... If we have payment then Wednesday it will be roasted and sent shortly after that. If you are lucky it will be in your grinder Thursday over fresh and bubbly and you can try it each day to find where "sweet spot" is for this coffee and your taste.
