    Green Bean Mastermind... round 2!

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
    Rightio!

Following on from Damians fun thread on IDing green beans...

Here are seven different green beans for you to identify. I tried to pick the most distinctive beans we had, so perhaps this will be a little easier..?

Have a go! I wont give any (other) clues yet; at least one of the beans should be REALLY obvious so thatll get the ball rolling...

That second last one is seriously ugly. A few look familiar, but Ill have to work on my guess for the others!

Just noticed a black dot I must have accidentally drawn on the first one... its not a bean borer! Hmm, is that a clue?

    Stu.

EDIT: drawn digitally, not on the bean itself... just in case anyone thought I wrote "this bean belongs to..." on all my greens :D

I was going to try and identify the one distinct one that I know by colour but the colour on my laptop may not be too good as they all look rather similar in colour except for the third last one which Id hazard a guess to be the monsooned malabar.
Would the first one be a Sumatran, blue batak or blue lintong?

    OK, just for kicks:

    1. *Some sort of indonesian wet-hulled thing
    2. *Some sort of robusta
    3. *Some central wet processed thing; maybe peru
    4. *A natural ethiopian
    5. *Harrar longberry
    6. *Decaf somethingorother
    7. *Brazil natural

I dont roast, so Im not expecting miracles. My preferred method of telling coffees apart is to taste them ;P

    Cheers,

    Luca

    Hooray, other players!

NtE - I can tell you that one of your guesses was correct, and that one of them wasnt...

Luca - wow, great effort! You got 4 out of 7 correct (or close enough). Thats without any clues, too!

    Any other takers (or re-takers)?
    Cheers

    ok, Ill go from lucas.

I agree with 1 as sumatra. 4 and 5 as ethiopian. I also think 7 is probably right. I dont think 6 is a decaf. it looks too light, and mixed colour. but maybe this is a robusta? I also think 3 is indonesian. 2 I dont know, but it looks nice!

    Have I sent us backwards!

You have indeed, Damo! ;) Im afraid you get 2/7... on the bright side, that should narrow it down a bit. :P

    Couple of clues (hopefully cryptic):
    - there are 6 unique countries represented, and the 7th is a blend...
    - I didnt pick any of the coffees that Damian did (ie. no Harar Longberry).
    - there IS a robusta in there, and its the only bean that isnt from BeanBay.
    - at least 4 of the beans are favourites on BeanBay over the years...

    There ya go!
    Cheers,
    Stuart.

Dont worry, Damian! You didnt have the extent of clues that I did! Luca walked all over both of us... ;)

Ok, it must be time for me to give a final round of clues before I reveal the answers!

    The countries represented are:
    Democratic Republic of Congo
    Peru
    Columbia
    India
    (Blend)
    Ethiopia
    Sumatra

    (that was in random order.)

    Fire away (please :P)!
    Cheers

oh - you went too fast. I was working up to another guess, but thought I should spend some time so I didnt embarass myself! Still cant believe that is the mocha java decaf! After luca mentioned it, I opened th bag and compared, and decided I was looking at a different coffee!!!
